CELEBRATING THE BEST OF DESIGN
Milliken’s carpet plank collection, Colour Compositions has been honoured with a Red Dot award for its design.
On 9th July 2018 winners of one of the design world’s highest accolades: the Red Dot award for Product Design, gathered in Essen, Germany to celebrate in style. Beginning at Essen’s Aalto-Theater Around 1,200 guests were led through the evening by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award. The evening culminated with the spectacular aftershow-party in the Red Dot Design Museum where the ‘Designers’ Night’ took place surrounded by all the winning products.
The collection includes 75 colour and design options and offers the designer the ability to create their own individual Colour Composition on the floor. Colour Compositions draws its creative inspiration from the large swaths of colour represented in the abstract expressionism style of colour-field painting.
Harmonious and balanced or challenging and unexpected, the new tile shape and design make possible an even more adventurous exploration of colour and form. Now the floor plane has a new facet, enabling greater experimentation and balancing the relationship between scale, shape, rhythm and pattern.
With Colour Compositions there is the ability to create large- scale pattern through strategic tile placement allowing the floor to be a subtle or dominant architectural experience. The naturally gradated patterns are made possible by Milliken’s proprietary high resolution digital patterning technology Millitron. Gradation within tiles easily coordinates with interior finishes, and plank size invites creative placement for inspiring patterns or wayfinding.
MULTI-AWARD WINNING
COLOUR COMPOSITIONS: The collection has attracted much award success across Europe, winning best flooring product in the Mixology design awards, as well as in France where the collection won a Miaw Design and Innovation award.
Milliken was awarded the prestigious Red Dot stamp of approval for its carpet plank collection Colour Compositions. The Red Dot jury commented: “The carpet tiles of the Colour Compositions collection are notable for their intriguing design and ecologically responsible manufacturing process.”

Colour Compositions is produced in a ‘plank’ format using high-performance ECONYL yarn with 100% regenerated nylon. Colour Composition’s cushion backing system features 90% recycled content and supports Milliken’s commitment to Wellness in the Workplace by improving underfoot comfort and improving acoustics.
