As vaccine rollouts gain pace and various lockdowns continue across the UK, the
promise that 2021 will be a much better year than the miserable 2020 is tempered by an optimistic sense of caution. We’re nowhere near out of the woods yet, but with the most vulnerable in society being prioritised for vaccination and new variants like the UK and South African strains not noticeably affecting vaccine effectiveness, we just have to hold our nerve a while longer.
That’s easier said than done, however, as we struggle to lower infection numbers and horrific daily death figures have seen the UK surge past 100,000 COVID-19 deaths.
People are understandably tired of the lockdowns and many businesses are stuck in limbo, but the numbers are only so high because of widespread non-compliance of
the rules. It’s more important than ever that cleaning and hygiene are top priorities for venues that have remained open, and for those expecting to return to operation when lockdowns are lifted.
Washroom Hygiene is one of the most vital elements to ensuring public safety and confidence, and in our dedicated feature we hear from Dudley Industries about improving traffic flow and usability in the washroom, while Stuart from Essity discusses the challenges involved in keeping office washrooms clean and well stocked. Alasdair from WEPA discusses how attitudes towards hand hygiene have changed, and we learn about Northwood’s new washroom hygiene system, Raphael.
We’ve also got a section dedicated to Technology in cleaning, in which we learn from Robert Scott about how three simple ingredients – water, salt and electricity – are
central to the Toucan Eco cleaning technology, while we find out about how Thames Cleaning and Support Services have aided their recent growth with integrated software from TemplaCMS.
