Selecting the right cleaning products
As COVID-19 continues to grip the UK, Jangro CEO Joanne Gilliard advises how to choose the right cleaning products from the wide array available on the market.
Choosing the right cleaning products has always been an important decision. After all, the selection you make has numerous consequences.
Has it been designed with sustainability in mind, and how will it impact the environment? How well does it perform – will it do the job to a high standard? This also leads to economic repercussions, for if it’s not effective, there will be increased wastage and costs. Finally, does it comply with industry regulations? This is vital from the perspective of health and safety.
These are all questions to consider whenever making a purchase, but in the midst of a pandemic become even more essential. In the past year, demand for cleaning and hygiene solutions has surged, and so too has the number of new, unethical companies seeking to profiteer at a time of global crisis.
Choose a trusted supplier
The first step to ensure a successful purchase is to partner with a reputable distributor. Check their credentials to see if they are a member of the UK Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association’s (CHSA) Accredited Distributors Scheme. This means that they have signed up to the CHSA’s Code of Practice, assuring customers that the products they purchase are fit-for-purpose, meet industry standards, and are reliable both in terms of their quality and the exact quantity promised on the packaging.
Are the claims all that they seem?
There’s been a myriad of extraordinary marketing claims foisted on products since the outbreak of the pandemic, but these are not to be trusted at face value. Indeed, the CHSA urges caution, advising that ‘if it seems too good to be true, it is'.
One such example was uncovered recently by consumer watchdog, Which. According to its independent tests,
several alcohol-based hand sanitisers sold online were revealed to contain a fraction of the alcohol content that they claimed to.
Checking such claims needn’t be laborious if you know what you are looking for. As well as reading the claim on the product description, check that it has been tested and has passed key standards. Where coronavirus is concerned, look for EN14476 on the label, which confirms that the product kills enveloped viruses, whilst EN1276 confirms its antibacterial efficacy.
At Jangro, we have recently extended our Professional range with a new antiviral collection, comprising of an antiviral disinfectant, hand wash and foggers, which can be used to disinfect whole rooms.
Evaluating environmental impact
Opting for antiviral and antibacterial efficacy doesn’t have to come at a cost to the Earth. Indeed, it’s our collective responsibility to make more sustainable choices whenever possible, and there are products which will combine the strength to kill viruses, like coronavirus, with a commitment to our planet.
One such example is our Enviro H6 General All Purpose Sanitiser. Not only does it conform to EN 14476 and EN 1276 standards, but it has been designed sustainably. It has a highly concentrated formulation, which means that only low dosages are required and it features a reduced amount of packaging.
Partnering with a good distributor or supplier can make all the difference when navigating the huge array of cleaning and hygiene solutions available. They have strict standards in place, so will ultimately have done all the legwork for you, offering a range of trusted and tested products, equipment, and services for you to purchase in confidence.
