GREEN & Swedish wood specialist Kährs has been handpicked by ethical handma

Kährs has supplied sustainable cosmetics retailer Lush with hardwood flooring for their stores, offices, spas and studios in the United Kingdom. The collaboration is a result of Kährs matching the strict environmental criteria set by Lush for its suppliers.

Lush has very high standards of sustainability awareness and a strong environmental ethos for all its cosmetic products, involving the whole chain from buying raw materials to packaging, waste and recycling, and reducing the use of energy and water. This demands long pre-qualification processes to ensure a sustainable supply chain, certifications and adopted processes, including no animal testing as well as ethical, sustainable and vegetarian sourcing of material.

At the end of 2018, a visit to the Kährs factory in Nybro, Sweden led to the agreement for Kährs to deliver hardwood floors to Lush stores across the UK.

The dynamically rustic and lightly smoked 'Oak Sevede' was chosen for various rooms, including the spa, in the new Liverpool flagship store, which opened in March 2019. Set across three floors, it is the largest Lush outlet in the world and a one-stop destination for

Lush products and spa services with a hair salon, perfume library and a florist.

This partnership is set to continue as Kährs hardwood flooring has already been delivered for Lush’s Birmingham flagship store and spa and is open for business.

“Our beliefs and ethics are at the centre of everything we do and, as such, it is important that our suppliers have the right credentials and fit with these beliefs. We have chosen Kährs to supply our spa flooring and we are really happy with the result that we have been able to achieve with this collaboration”, says Rosie Goodbourn, Materials Researcher for Lush.

The expected next step of the collaboration will be to deliver flooring to Lush stores in countries outside of the United Kingdom.

Christer Persson, President and CEO, Kährs Group said: “We are very proud to collaborate with Lush and especially that we share a passion in environment and sustainability. Just as Lush, we strive to constantly reduce our impact on the environment throughout all our operations.”
