CARBON SAVING CHANGES FOR CARPET

AND FLOORING Carpet and Flooring, a distributor of flooring products designed specifically for the healthcare, commercial, education and residential sectors, has made a commitment to reduce carbon use within the industry by rerouting the delivery journeys its fleet of HGVs takes each day.

Used for thousands of deliveries per week, by rerouting journeys, Carpet and Flooring will be able to reduce miles travelled by 200,000 per year, resulting in an estimated reduction of 216 tonnes of CO2 annually. The rerouting of its deliveries will mean Carpet and Flooring can take three vehicles off the road and also reduce general stem mileage, whilst having no impact on deliveries to customers.

developing its routing and scheduling system, which will further reduce stem mileage of each vehicle, consequently upgrading its fleet to new and more efficient Euro 6 engine vehicles creating further carbon savings.

The changes have been made as part of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), an energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK. Carpet and Flooring has also been working to ISO 14001, the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system.

Lisa Tomlin, CEO of Carpet and Flooring, said: “When we looked at how much carbon we were using on deliveries, we knew something had to change. Simply by rerouting our journeys, we have been able to reduce our mileage significantly, creating huge carbon savings.
