A WORKPLACE THAT SHIFTS MENTALITY

FOR KPMG BELGIUM Jaspers-Eyers Architects have created a domestic business environment using sustainable materials, including carpet tiles from modulyss at the new headquarters of KPMG Belgium

Proposing a biophilic design to complement the natural light and reflecting material abundant in the PassPort building, next to Brussels Airport, interior designer Natalie Schoonjans was tasked with developing the concept. Her idea was to make a fluid transition between three modulyss styles in the Handcraft collection – Moss, Leaf and Willow - running dynamically along the curved lines of the building.

Exploring the relationship between nature and craft in an organic design bringing earthy tones, the three carpet tile designs differ a little from each other, combining beautifully in a perfect textural puzzle. Ingrid Sitters, facilities director, KPMG Belgium, comments: “We opted for a calmer

COCKTAIL CREATIONS

can be combined with flashes of Fjord, Pebble, Demerara, Burnt Copper, Karma and Lime Zest to stunning effect.

The first Ready to Go collection featuring Creations is also now available in the brand-new Havana, a narrowloom woven axminster available in 10 incredible fusionist designs that artfully blend layers of abstract pattern and familiar floral and geometric motifs. Designed specifically to cater for the needs of the pub and bar segment, where 0.91m wide carpets offer ideal flexibility.

Dominated by the rich blues of Jade and Fjord with accents from Karma, Pebble

and Burnt Copper, Havana’s enticingly named designs are inspired by cocktails with Pina Colada, Bellini, Black Velvet and Mint Julep, among others, reimagining themselves in the beautiful patterns and combinations throughout the collection.

Woven in Wiltshire, Havana is crafted from 80% pure new wool and 20% nylon to provide an obtainable, long-lasting blend in an all-round seven-row quality perfect throughout corridors, lounge areas and busy bars.

pattern around workstations and a more intricate texture for the aisles”.

Supporting KPMG’s sustainable philosophy, Moss, Leaf and Willow are made from 100% regenerated ECONYL yarn, derived from recovered fishing nets and other waste materials; have recycled content in the backing and are supported by the CO2RE emissions offset initiative.

Standard on the Handcraft collection, KPMG also opted for CO2RE on the Patchwork carpet tiles used. This saw the entire KPMG project, including offices in Antwerp and Hasselt, reduce CO2 emissions by 103tonnes and

enabled the purchase of energy- efficient cook stoves to make a positive change for 20 Kenyan families. The use of these cook stoves, burning up to 60% less wood, is expected to save around 279 trees.

After having completed the move into its new offices, KPMG has happily welcomed a new work ethic: “There’s a shift in mentality,” Ingrid Sitters explains, “being at the office means that I’m meeting my colleagues.” A beautiful example of how an open workspace can inspire interaction and collaboration among employees.
