A QUICK FIT
As Kerakoll launches a revamped range for hardwood flooring, they provide a handy guide to the rapid-laying system.
Kerakoll has just relaunched its collection of adhesives, sealing and cleaning products for hardwood flooring in the UK. The revamped collection includes Slc EP21 Rapid (a rapid primer/DPM), new formulations of the popular L34 range of adhesives including a new rapid-setting product, and cleaners, fillers and varnishes. A hardwood flooring systems brochure which doubles as a product catalogue is also available for the range. The brochure covers laying on all common substrates, with or without heating, and includes a rapid- laying system which is looked at in more detail below.
QUICK SYSTEM FOR HARDWOOD
FLOOR LAYING The system for fast installation of hardwood flooring is very simple and versatile. It can be used for new installations but is also ideal for renovation work, localised operations and repairs.
1) The substrate is consolidated using Slc Eco EP21 Rapid which is a two-part organic resin specifically developed for stabilising and strengthening problematic substrates and waterproofing them to protect wood flooring from damp. It can be used on substrates with up to 5% CM residual humidity. It rapidly becomes hard and is ready for the next application within 2-3 hours at 23°C allowing work to progress quickly. It is solvent-free, non-toxic and non-hazardous and has very low VOC emissions, being certified as GEV-Emicode EC1-R Plus, all of which means that it can be used safely in confined quarters without risk to the health of the installer, and will not contribute to sick building syndrome.
2) Next a layer of Slc Eco L34 Rapid is used to fix the wood flooring to the substrate. This two-part adhesive hardens rapidly even at low temperatures, being ready for foot- traffic after three hours and totally hard after five hours. The interval before normal use of engineered floors is 12 hours. It has a pot life of 50 minutes and an open time of 70 minutes, giving the installer plenty of time to work on the floor. It can be used to lay any type of hardwood floor on any substrate including heated ones and develops a perfect balance of adhesive force and elasticity which works with Kerakoll’s anti-shock system technology to

guarantee the strength and adhesion of the installation in all conditions. It is solvent-free, non-toxic and non- hazardous making it safe to use onsite.
3) The floor is finished with an application of Slc Eco Aqua-Pur HPX which is a two-part water-based varnish with reduced solvent content and low VOC emissions, certified as GEV- emicode EC1. This enhances the natural beauty of the wood grain at the same time as offering high levels of protection from wear and abrasion. It can be used to treat traditional and prefinished wooden floors, bamboo floors and on restored floors, in residential and commercial buildings, even in areas subject to extremely heavy foot traffic. It needs to be applied in 2-3 coats. If using two coats, there is a waiting time of eight hours between coats and then 24-36 hours for light foot traffic after the second coat. The waiting time for normal or heavy foot traffic is 7-10 days.
TECHNICAL ADVICE AND
PROBLEM SOLVING Every project is unique and it is important to take into account any particular issues that may be present. The best way to do this is to get the manufacturer involved at the specification stage, so that the most suitable products can be chosen, and to ensure that they are consulted should an unforeseen issue occur on site. Kerakoll’s technical team is pleased to offer their help and advice at all stages of any project.
