Smartspan Saddle System by CMS Danskin Acoustics

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

For performance in sound insulation CMS Danskin Acoustics’ Smartspan Saddle System can be laid on a wide variety of base floors. The system creates a void for services or underfloor heating whilst levelling uneven subfloors in new build and refurbishment schemes.

Ideal for projects where acoustic performance is key, the system has been installed in a recent addition to Edinburgh’s skyline, the striking ‘W Edinburgh’, part of Marriott’s luxury W Hotels brand. Here, the Smartspan Saddle System provides effective impact and airborne sound reduction, under floor access for cabling and precise levelling of concrete subfloors.

Company Profile

CMS Danskin Acoustics, part of The Performance Technology Group, produces and sources insulation products advising on all matters relating to sound proofing materials and noise reduction strategies, including floors, ceilings and walls, to combat airborne and impact noise. Notable projects include Granton Harbour, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and The Shard.

CMS Danskin Acoustics worked closely with BAM sub-contractor MMM Joinery who installed the floors in guest rooms, a sound suite and public areas in the main building. Involving over 50,000 saddles this dry floor solution eliminates wet trades enhancing site efficiency.

The acoustic solution had to meet the requirements of Section 5 The Building (Scotland) Regulations, but also the very high standards set for this prestigious new hotel.

The installation of over 6,700m² of CMS Danskin Acoustics’ Smartspan flooring, a high density (1500 kg/m³), A1 non- combustible (EN 13501-1) board, which spans support bearers with minimal deflection, added to the acoustic performance of the completed saddle system at W Edinburgh.

Compatible subfloor types for the system include cast in-situ concrete, pre-cast concrete and steel-concrete composite decks. Suitable surface finishes include timber, laminate, carpet, ceramic tiles and stone.

Smartspan is a gypsum-based fibre reinforced calcium sulphate board which provides a working load safety Factor 2 and a minimum acoustic performance of Lw 24dB (ISO 140-8). With thermal conductivity of 0.44W/mK, Smartspan is more responsive to changes in underfloor heating settings than standard chipboard panels.

CMS Danskin Acoustics offers standard, dual height or pedestal saddles (for floor voids >200mm) and thermal saddles for optimal integration with underfloor heating.
