In September 2024, Headlam announced the consolidation of its 32 local trading businesses into Mercado, a trusted national brand with almost 100 years of flooring experience. This change comes as part of the Group’s accelerated customer-led growth strategy, putting the customer at the heart of everything the company does.
This simplification of Headlam’s operating model has made doing business with the company much simpler and more efficient. Mercado customers now have access to the largest flooring portfolio across England and Wales, with one simplified national product and price list, and greater flexibility in how products can be ordered, delivered or collected.

Headlam’s redesigned sales team now operates as one unified national salesforce. This means customers will have one Mercado account, with one dedicated local Area Sales Manager (ASM) who are experts in either residential or commercial flooring so are uniquely placed to give the best advice. Each Area Sales Manager can now draw on the scale of the wider distribution network to get products where customers need them as quickly as possible. It is the same great local service but on a national scale.
Ensuring all products are now available to all customers across the country, the company has enhanced its trade counter offering, so customers can order and pick up from anywhere. Along with its existing next day delivery service, these options give far more flexibility and convenience.
To further increase efficiency, all buying operations have been brought together to simplify the purchasing process, creating one national product and price list. In time, this will remove duplications and make ordering from Headlam easier. As part of this process, Headlam is also launching a new specialist e-commerce website and app so that customers can shop its full portfolio online or on the go.
