RecycleMyCarpet.co.uk by Carpet Recycling UK ABOUT THIS SERVICE

According to latest Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) figures, through its members, the sector and wider waste industry approximately 73% of textile flooring waste is being diverted from landfill. Around 390,000 tonnes of carpet and textile waste arises annually in the UK.

CRUK is spearheading the drive to recycle and repurpose this material in a circular economy approach that reduces waste, recovers reusable resources and ultimately protects the environment.

Thanks to its latest online resource – www.recyclemycarpet.co.uk – it has become easier for domestic households in the UK to safely dispose of carpets and other textile flooring waste. This innovative database – the first of its kind – provides users with information on their local authority Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across the country which accept these materials.

Welcoming the move, Cathie Clarke, CEO of CRUK said the dedicated website allows the public to find their local council- operated waste and recycling centre, helping to provide a convenient and free-of-charge solution for a bulky waste stream.

She said: “This will also reduce the amount of waste being handled by fitters, or being returned to the retailers, and help to improve recycling rates for these materials.”

CRUK says the launch of its database comes at a ‘crucial time’ as the UK government plans to standardise recycling collections across local authorities by March 2026. The new resource will help consumers to navigate the current varied landscape of disposal options and prepare for forthcoming changes.

The website not only aids consumers but also supports the carpet industry’s move towards a more sustainable economy. It complements recent innovations such as the UK’s first carpet recycling facility, opened by Innovate Recycle in Northampton.

“By providing easy access to local information, we aim to develop wider awareness and create better accessibility for the disposal of carpet and textile flooring waste across the country,” said Cathie.

CRUK encourages feedback on the resource and will continually update it to ensure it remains a valuable tool for sustainable carpet disposal across the UK.
