WAVE by Cromwell Polythene

It is essential that care staff, who work so hard to protect us, have the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to help prevent the spread of infection. Cromwell Polythene’s Wave range of PPE ensures safety, comfort, and performance.

The range includes disposable gloves suitable for healthcare, cleaning, and waste management tasks. They are food safe, which means they are highly effective for sanitising requirements within food contact areas.

The gloves are both latex-free and powder-free, helping to minimise the occurrence of skin irritation. They provide the comfort and performance attributes of latex, but at a lower cost and without the allergy issues, with which the material is often associated.

Options available include blue nitrile examination gloves, which have strong barrier properties and high resistance to oils, fats, and chemicals; synthetic examination gloves; and vinyl general purpose gloves.

The gloves are packed in a way that they are dispensed ‘cuff first’. This has clear hygienic advantages, helping to minimise contamination of equipment or the environment. All of the gloves are tested to BS EN 455, the standard for medical gloves for single-use, in addition to a number of other EN and ISO quality management standards.

The Wave range also includes water-soluble strip laundry bags for the safe containment of soiled linen. The bags have a water-soluble seal and a tie string for securing the bags. The strip and tie part of the bag dissolve in water allowing the contents to discharge into the wash. The bag itself is taken out with the wash and can be recycled.

Cromwell also supplies other forms of PPE, such as disposable aprons and protective plastic sheeting for receptions and other areas of work.

WYLD MESH NETWORKING by Wyld Networks

Wyld Networks has developed innovative new technology designed to protect residents, staff and visitors in care homes against COVID-19 and other viruses. Wyld is currently working with NHS Highland, together with Highland Health Ventures (HHVL,) to deploy the first system at Castlehill Care Home in Inverness.

Wyld’s mobile mesh networking harnesses the power of peoples’ mobile devices, connecting smartphones directly to other smartphones without the need for cellular 4G/5G or Wi-Fi. Data simply finds the quickest and easiest route by hopping between phones to deliver notifications, alerts and other content quickly and reliably via an existing or new care home-branded mobile app.

The Wyld system is also able to create virtual geozones around the whole care home, as well as sensitive or quarantined areas, alongside dynamic personal two-metre geozones around everyone with the app. All staff and visitors will have to download the mobile application and input COVID-19 test results and enter any symptoms into a self-diagnostic algorithm embedded in the application to create a risk profile. Residents without a smartphone can be given electronic wristbands or similar.

Anyone approaching a geozone is sent a message instantly to let them know if they can enter. Operational staff get a detailed record of everyone in the care home at any time and who they have come into contact with. This allows care home managers to contact and advise anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID-19 or develops symptoms.

In addition, the use of graphical ‘heat maps’ to provide visualisation of patterns of movement in the home, can also be used to make informed decisions around adjustments to layout or working practices to avoid unintentional close contact.

Data security and privacy are paramount, so importantly, all data is fully anonymised and only smartphones with the app installed that are inside the care home geozone are meshed together. As the smartphone leaves the geozone, it is automatically disconnected.
