The company motto, HA Means More, is a strapline that underpins their passionate support of charities and causes, such as The Bobby Colleran Trust and ‘Speedo Mick’. Whether it’s a donation to local foodbanks or delivering Road Safety classes to school children, Huyton Asphalt goes the extra mile. Managing Director, James Blennerhassett, explains: “We are more than just a tarmacking or civil engineering company. Our aim is to always strive to go above and beyond.” James goes on to explain that this means more than ensuring
staff have the correct PPE, vehicles and Chapter 8, but ensuring that the company’s distinctive blue and yellow branding is extended across each and every piece of equipment and machinery used at each site. The company’s workforce is also supported by Mental Health First Aiders, who are spread throughout the business.
All of these initiatives ensure that Huyton Asphalt benefits from having an engaged workforce who take pride in what they do, with multiple generations of families working together within the company.
The company also provides a considerable amount of support to careers initiatives hosted by local college apprenticeship and student mentoring programmes, as well as giving presentations and offering advice to students looking to work within the construction industry.
James goes on to explain: “We work up and down the country, and whether we’re delivering a framework for Asda, Highways England or Liverpool City Council, we take great pride in whatever job we do. There is an unbelievable passion running

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the team has continued to work to play their part in keeping the country moving. From essential maintenance and pothole repairs, to major improvement schemes across city networks, motorways, airports, rail and major ports, Huyton Asphalt, along with HA Civils, has remained driven to deliver throughout 2020. The team has also worked on a number of hospital projects, which they carry out with considerable pride, knowing that their work helps to support the NHS during this challenging time. While Huyton Asphalt has long worked with some of the largest companies in Great Britain, such as Asda, Balfour Beatty and Persimmon, they are proud to be included in the approved suppliers’ list for Highways England. As a private SME, securing a contract at this level is testament to the standard of work the company delivers. Huyton Asphalt is also celebrating their 50th anniversary with a large investment of new equipment for their fleet. Together with their sister company, HA Civils, the company’s fleet is currently in excess of 200 machines. Part of this new investment includes two new Volvo ABG P6870D pavers. Huyton Asphalt swear by Volvo ABG pavers and currently still run four different generations of the 6870 over their fleet of seventeen pavers. Commenting on the ABG machines, Fleet Manager, Connor Philbin, explains: “Without a shadow of a doubt, these are the best pavers we have come across. From the undisputed reliability and manageable service cost, to the immense power and manoeuvrability. The power output of the machines has been increased in the new model 6870D, but the noise output and fuel consumption have been reduced – all of these are factors that contributed to us staying loyal to the Volvo
