If you are a long-time reader of THE VOICE, it is not likely to have escaped your notice that SMT is no stranger to supporting charitable causes
Last year SMT GB supported the Campaign Against Living Miserably, or CALM, through a variety of sponsored events, including; cake sales, BBQ’s, a family day, a sports day, charity car wash, participation in the Cambridge Fun Colour Run, a lunchtime quiz, an evening cycle ride and a 25km hike through the Peak District. All of these efforts raised a total of £4,161.68 for this worthy charity. In addition to this, the Executive Management team of SMT GB
also rolled their sleeves up and spent a day volunteering their time to help clean a portion of the Tipton Canal Network. This year, Covid-19 has robbed us of the opportunity to put on all of the usual charity supporting activities that we organise
throughout the year. However, with determination to do some form of fundraising activity, a charity auction was arranged over Facebook to give our unissued surplus Volvo workwear uniform pieces an opportunity to fulfil their purpose. With a modest target set of £250 to raise, the pieces were posted on the SMT GB Facebook Page, and the deadline was set. Expecting bidders to start off small, we were thoroughly taken aback by opening bids of £30–£40! In total, the charity auction raised an incredible £408for
the ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY. And with a large portion of the surplus uniform still in storage, expect to see a few more auctions in the future.
