EDITORIAL LETTER Getting back to normal… Hello, and welcome to Edition 39 of THE VOICE magazine – the voice of SMT in Great Britain.

While we have started this year in the less than ideal position of having to endure another national lockdown, our spirits here at SMT GB are shored up by the major advantage of having solid plans and procedures in place to allow us to continue working safely. With several good news stories starting to come through amidst the doom and gloom, it is our sincere hope that life will slowly return to normal throughout the course of this year.

With none of our traditional events taking place last year, we thought we’d try something new and created a virtual exhibition, which you can read about on pages 52–53. It’s as close as we can get to the real thing currently, with the only thing missing being a burger and a beer!

We’ve been busy catching up with customers to see what they have been up to. Greenwood’s Tree Contractors have invested in a new ECR145E, while others in their industry have been cutting back and are adapting to a new landscape, which you can read about on pages 28–31.

The EC950F that we were due to show last year at Hillhead has now been delivered to Collins Earthworks, and is already raising their performance another notch. You can see this powerful machine in action on pages 32–35.

Volvo have recently launched two new machines, an EC200E Material Handler which you can read about on pages 22–27, and the new six tonne ECR58F which you can read about on pages 40–43.

In more personal news, I shall be handing over the reins of the next Voice magazine to Alex Cox, as I am leaving SMT temporarily to go on Maternity leave. Alex has helped

considerably with getting this edition to print, so I know the magazine is being left in capable hands. I shall return in June, just in time for Hillhead and I hope to catch up with many of you at the show (COVID permitting, of course!)

I hope that you and your families remain safe and well, and we shall all keep our fingers crossed for a return to normality during 2021.

I hope that you enjoy reading the latest edition of THE VOICE. It is very much your magazine, so if there is anything you would like to see more of, please let Alex know @Alex_Cox_SMT
