DCA UPDATE
DIRECT COMMERCE ASSOCIATION
A
ll live DCA events including our range of training workshops have been postponed until such a time as the
government decrees that it is safe to offer them. We have brought forward our plans to have further courses developed and are now working on our future offering which includes a distance learning option. Our Annual Summit, which was to have taken place in June, is also postponed until further notice.
In the meantime, the team is happy to help with any enquiries from members and to offer all the support it can in these difficult times. All member companies are having to adapt and conform with the government’s guidelines whilst the pandemic continues to present such a threat to our population.
Most who are trading online are currently able to continue to do so but must ensure that all team members who are deployed in operations and fulfilment roles are fully protected and able to work at a distance from each other. Businesses should also ensure that they are aware of the risk to employees whilst commuting to and from their premises and might, for example, stagger shift hours in order that those using public transport can travel outside of peak hours.
Across the membership, news of retail store business rate concessions, support for furloughed employees, as well as access to government supported business loans has provided a degree of relief. However, most
Update
are reporting a slowing of demand, save for our members in the gardening, health related and hobby sectors, who are mostly reporting major lifts in sales. Given the degree of panic buying of groceries that has been taking place, we conclude that consumers have greatly increased their spending in supermarkets at the expense of seemingly less vital products. The comment made by Lord Wolfson CEO of Next – that people ‘don’t buy a new outfit to stay at home’ – is highly pertinent. However, sales of loungewear have increased as more people will be working from home, or staying at home, over the coming months.
Our advisory board members have been offering some sage advice during these troubled times and this can be found at

Meanwhile our new website is coming along nicely as are some positive new member benefit initiatives to help support businesses. More will be revealed in our regular member updates. With an increasing number of people now working from home we urge everyone to ensure that all in their teams are aware of their company’s DCA membership, sign up for our newsletters, and know how to access DCA support.
We are open Monday to Friday from 9.00am -4.30pm – call: 0208 092 5227 or email
