Marks & Spencer adds strategy chief Marks & Spencer has named Katie Bickerstaffe as its chief strategy & transformation director. Bickerstaffe will fulfil the obligations of her new role whilst continuing to serve on the M&S board as an executive director. She will take up her new role on April 27th and replaces Melanie Smith who is CEO of Ocado Retail.
John Lewis names new director Nina Bhatia joins John Lewis executive director of strategy & commercial development. Bhatia said; “I am delighted to be joining the partnership. Working with partners across the business, I look forward to developing a strategy for the partnership that is relevant to our customers, is built on trust and delivers commercial value.”
Sarah Welsh takes N Brown retail CEO role Sarah Welsh who was most recently managing director of Oasis is joining N Brown Group in the newly created role of retail CEO. Welsh will assume responsibility for the buying, merchandising, design, fit, trading, sourcing and partnerships whilst also supporting the business’ retail strategy which is focused on delivering profitable digital growth and will report to group CEO Steve Johnson.
Hamleys names new CEO Reports suggest that Hamleys has appointed David Smith as its CEO.
SCS CEO announces retirement David Knight, group CEO of the SCS furniture retailer will retire within the next twelve months having joined the business in 1987. A search will now commence for a replacement at the LSE listed company. Alan Smith, chairman of SCS commented: “David has committed a very substantial part of his working life to SCS and has been pivotal to its success.”
N Brown Group names new CFO N Brown Group has recruited Rachel Izzard as group chief financial officer, replacing Craig Lovelace. Izzard has most recently served as CFO of Aer Lingus. Lovelace who joined N Brown Group five years ago has resigned to take up another position. He will work with group CEO Steve Johnson to ensure an orderly handover, dates for his departure and Izzard’s arrival have yet to be confirmed.

The Hut Group to create 500 jobs The Hut Group (THG) is to bring forward the creation of 500 new roles across its manufacturing, logistics and order fulfilment facilities. The online giant which specialises in beauty, health and nutrition products says it is enjoying a surge in demand for its products as well as for its technology platform from FMCG brand companies looking to grow their direct-to- consumer online sales opportunities. The roles being fast tracked were originally planned for later in the year and most are for its Warrington site, with others in Poland and the US. THG is making the move to try to offset redundancies in the UK’s north west region caused by the effect of coronavirus.
CEO Matthew Moulding said: “Some of the region’s (NW) biggest employers have had to make incredibly tough decisions in recent days, leaving a worrying number of people out of work at such a vulnerable time. Our message to those affected is that we will look to do whatever we can to help, and so we are bringing forward our recruitment plans. We are now hiring across our manufacturing and logistics sites with immediate effect.”
Craig Inglis resigns from John Lewis The latest in a number of senior people to resign their positions at John Lewis is Craig Inglis, customer director. This latest resignation comes as the business restructures to create a single integrated senior management operation at head office level. Inglis will leave in March after twelve years with the business.
Senior departures at Majestic Wines Josh Lincoln who served as managing director at Majestic Wines for just over two years has left the business along with its chief customer officer Natalie Thng. Meanwhile, Suzanne Kielty has joined as people director, with Robert Cooke promoted to chief commercial officer.
Management changes at Waterstones Waterstones has accepted the resignation of its operations director Steve Callaghan prompting a number of changes to its management team. Luke Taylor has risen to the position of retail director with Beccy Preece appointed as logistics director and Andrew Stephenson joining as HR director.
