WMEA News Will Janssen, WMEA President-Elect 2024 Wisconsin State Music Conference
The 2024 Wisconsin State Music Conference is already in the final planning stages with the theme of “Music Moves Us Forward.” The conference returns to Monona Terrace October 23–26.
This year’s conference will include presentations by Deb Confredo, National Association for Music Education (NAfME) President 2024–2026, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, NAfME Tri-M Chair and Franklin Willis, CMA Music Teacher of Excellence Award recipient.
A large group of music educators gather at Wisconsin Center for Music Education in January to review session proposals for the
2024 Wisconsin State Music Conference and begin the process of ranking them for consideration.

President-Elect candidates are Lee Stovall and Randal Swiggum. Candidates from the North Central are Jacob Jorstad and Sara Sternberg. Candidates from the Southeast are Emma Angoli and Bianca Kue. WMEA thanks all those who were willing to put their names forward for placement on the ballots. Results from the election will be posted soon!
Leaders Needed: Open WMEA Council Positions
Each April, WMEA posts descriptions of several open WMEA Council positions with a nomination form due by early May. These positions will be appointed by the WMEA President for the term of July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026.
NOTE: With the exception of WMEA Regional Vice President seat nominations – which will remain nominated by each area’s respective WMEA member residents only – recent changes made by the WMEA Executive Board have opened all other elected and appointed WMEA seat nominations to all WMEA members across the state!

New WMEA Chairs Introduce Themselves
From Disability and Accessibility Chair Terry Little: My name is Terry Little, and I am currently employed as Elm- brook School District’s Music Coordinator and Teaching and Learning Specialist. Furthering the commitment of music educa- tion for all, WMEA has recently added the position of Disability and Accessibility Chair to the WMEA Council. I am incredibly humbled to be named to this position, and as Chair, I plan to ask questions, initiate conversations, share learning and continue to advocate for every learner in accordance with the NAfME posi- tion statement on equity and access in music education:
“All students deserve access to and equity in the delivery of music education, one of the subjects deemed necessary in federal law for a well rounded education, which is at the heart of NAfME’s stated mission: to advance music education by promoting the understanding and making of music by all.”
From Social Media Chair Matt Lamb: I’m Matt Lamb, and I am very excited to serve all of you as the new WMEA Social Media Chair. My role will be to help facili- tate social media content to inform and inspire you, the music educator. I hope to also be a resource for you on using social media to advocate for your own programs.
