Centrifuge Ready 2ml Deep Well Plate
Porvair Sciences has launched a reinforced base version of its 96-well deep round microplate (P/N 219020). The plate has been designed with a working volume of 2ml per well (double that of most round well reinforced storage plates) and can be routinely centrifuged at up to 6000g when used with centrifuge support mat.
Manufactured from ultra-pure grade polypropylene, Porvair’s new reinforced base 96-well deep round plates are certified as RNase / DNase free and contain the lowest possible level of contaminants that may leach out and affect the sample. Designed to a standard ANSI/SLAS 96-well plate footprint the plates are fully automation compatible.
The new plate design not only has a reinforced base but also incorporates features that prevent ‘locking’ when stacked and enable easy heat sealing. The plates cylindrical wells with round bottom ensures optimal mixing and recovery of sample.
For sterile biological applications, Porvair 2ml 96-well deep round plates are available irradiated. A matching thermoplastic elastomer ‘cap mat’ provides easy friction sealing of this plate for transport, shipping and short-term storage. For longer periods, the plate can be heat sealed using Porvair Sciences aluminium or clear heat seals together with the company’s Miniseal II thermal sealer to provide a range of peelable, pierceable and re-sealable storage options.

Hydrolysis and Extraction with a Microwave Enhanced System
Flexible and Accurate Thermal Sampling for GC and GCMS
There are many substances presented to the analyst that are not easily analysed using conventional techniques such as GC and GCMS including insoluble or involatile solids e.g. wood/paper, pharmaceutical, and soil/mineral samples, or complex solids e.g. cured adhesives, polymers, and paints. These problematic substances can however be analysed using analytical pyrolysis which is the controlled thermal degradation of the larger complex molecules into smaller, more analytically useful fragments that can be separated using conventional GC and GCMS.
The CDS-6000 pyrolyser systems can be installed onto any GC and configured for standard or slow rate pyrolysis, reactant gas pyrolysis (O2
, H2 , or gas of any choice), EGA studies, high pressure pyrolysis with reactant gas and elevated pressure through to steam pyrolysis.

The Milestone EthosX microwave enhanced extraction system allows faster, safer and lower-cost fat extraction than via traditional methods. The two-step process sees sample hydrolysis and extraction take place in a single step at elevated temperature and pressure conditions.
The system can be used with many food matrices and for example, working with 12 dairy samples simultaneously, accurate total fat determination can be achieved in just 90 minutes with just 25ml of solvent. This would typically take 180 minutes and 100ml of solvent with traditional methods.
Aside from the speed, safety and efficiency, advantages of the EthosX include its large sample size of up to 10 grams and the fat obtained can also be used for fatty acid analysis by GC or GCMS.
