Ultra-clean PFA ultrasonic fl owmeter

Titan Enterprises introduces the Metraflow® Ultra Clean PFA Ultrasonic Flowmeter, a cutting-edge solution for diverse applications within the pharmaceutical manufacturing process. The Metraflow® stands out for its non-invasive nature and single clean bore feature, making it ideal for industries where purity and accuracy in flow measurements are paramount, especially when handling critical fluids like ultra-pure water (UPW).

In the pharmaceutical sector, the advantages of in-line ultrasonic flow meters, such as the Metraflow®, are significant:

Hygienic design: The Metraflow® boasts FDA-approved high-performance PFA polymer tubing, ensuring exceptional chemical compatibility and purity. The absence of internal moving parts enhances longevity, reduces the risk of contamination, and eliminates nucleation or leak points that could compromise product quality or process efficiency.

Process optimisation: Flow meters play a crucial role in optimising pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. In applications such as wet granulation, precise flow measurement ensures the accurate addition of liquid binders to the mixture, leading to improved tablet quality and consistency.

Accurate measurement: Utilising ultrasound technology, the Metraflow® incorporates Titan’s patented time-of-flight ultrasonic technology and sophisticated electronics, providing precise and reliable measurements of ultra-pure liquids. With an accuracy of ±0.5% FSD and ±0.1% repeatability across flow ranges from 20 to 5000 ml/min, the Metraflow® ensures accurate and consistent results.

Cost efficiency: Accurate flow measurement and control of critical fluids minimise product waste, improving overall process efficiency. This leads to cost savings and increased profitability, crucial in the highly competitive pharmaceutical industry.

The Metraflow® is popular among top pharmaceutical companies, due to its effectiveness and reliability in streamlining manufacturing techniques. These companies prioritise quality and efficiency, and the adoption of this reliable technology reflects its suitability for their needs. With its non-intrusive, sanitary, and accurate measurement capabilities, the Metraflow® contributes to ensuring the integrity and sterility of critical fluids while optimising manufacturing processes, ultimately enhancing product quality and profitability.

Optimising API development with bespoke lab vessels

Asynt, a laboratory equipment provider, collaborates with Almac Sciences, a specialist in API development and manufacturing, to create custom reactor vessels. This case study highlights the partnership’s benefits, emphasising Asynt’s lab vessels in streamlining Almac Sciences’ scale-up processes.

Almac Sciences, an Almac Group member, offers integrated services for advanced intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) development, with over five decades of expertise.

Recognising efficient scale-up’s significance, Almac Sciences initially engaged Asynt for benchtop-scale lab reactors (250 mL to 1,000 mL). These reactors mirror Almac Sciences’ larger plant vessels, ensuring a seamless transition to large-scale manufacturing.

Richard Ward, Principal Chemist at Almac Sciences, explained: “Small-scale custom lab reactors from Asynt, combined with our modelling software, enable us to simulate and validate processes before scaling up. This approach saves time and costs, enhancing confidence in scaled-up manufacturing.”

Almac Sciences expanded, procuring larger custom lab vessels (10 to 20 L) from Asynt. These empower Almac Sciences to conduct gram-scale scale-up reactions before plant manufacturing.

Richard added: “Larger custom lab vessels from Asynt allow a wide range of chemistries. Leveraging Asynt vessels and Julabo temperature control units, we model and refine processes before scaling up.”

To optimise operations, Almac Sciences adopts Asynt’s ReactoMate ATOM stands, supporting larger lab vessels (5, 10, and 20 L). This user-friendly system adjusts vessel height, enhancing safety and convenience during solids charging.

The collaboration enhances API development and manufacturing. Asynt’s custom lab vessels optimise process simulation, validation, and scale-up. Integration with Julabo temperature control units boosts non-GMP material production while saving time and costs. Asynt’s ReactoMate ATOM stands enhance laboratory safety and usability.
