Particle Characterisation Third Generation Computerised Particle Analyser

When it comes to analysing particle shape and size Haver & Boecker not only stands for top quality, but also for patented innovation. This year there is the new generation Haver CPA 2-1 and Haver CPA 2-1 HR laboratory instruments.

The entire hardware measurement process has been overhauled and improved. The process, from material input to discharge into the measurement zone, has been optimised. As a result handling is easier and faulty operation is practically eliminated. And in order to better protect the measurement zone from external disturbances, a cover has been integrated as a standard feature for both instrument types. The cover allows quick and easy access.

Another interesting development with the Haver CPA 2-1 HR is the optimised chute geometry, which once again improves the resolution of the agglomerate and makes material conveying more uniform. This allows perfect measurement quality to be maintained despite increased measurement speed. Moreover both the Haver CPA 2-1 and the Haver CPA 2-1 HR can operate with an integrated ultrasonic support. With this combination not only is the measurement time optimised, but also the application spectrum can be further expanded to include more difficult materials.

The proven line-scan camera technology is also able to extend its advantage over other dynamic particle analysis methods. For the customer this means falsified results arising from unmeasured sampling parts are excluded. Furthermore there is no double measurement of particles, which occurs with matrix cameras and especially with multiple camera systems. As a result, excellent reproducibility and measurement quality are achieved also with the smallest sample sizes. In addition, the exchange of feed chutes, measurement range switchovers and adjustments are unnecessary. Haver CPA offers a constant level of measurement quality for each individual particle over the entire measurement range at no additional expense.

With the Fritsch Laser Particle Sizers ANALYSETTE 22 MicroTec plus (0.08 – 2000 µm) and NanoTec plus (0.01 – 2000 µm) particle measurement becomes a simple matter, for professionals as well as for any employee, in production and quality control or in research and development. No prior knowledge is required. Just start the programme, select a SOP and add the sample, the rest takes place completely automatic.

Each ANALYSETTE 22 is delivered automatically with the MaS control Software containing predefined SOPs for nearly all typical measurement tasks. It is also possible to modify these SOPs completely freely which gives you the flexibility to perfectly suit your measurement requirements.

In addition to integrated standard reports, the freely editable report generator allows your measurements reports to be organised exactly according to your needs. The reports can integrate graphs as well as all measurement parameters, statistical values or selected measured values. Integration into a local computer network is a simple matter.

Benefit from the decisive advantages of particle size measurement with Fritsch Laser Particle Sizers ANALYSETTE 22: especially fast and efficient automatic cleaning, short analysis times and consistently reproducible and reliable results.

Choose according to your needs: either the ANALYSETTE 22 MicroTec plus, the perfect all-round-laser with a measuring range of 0.08 – 2000 µm for all typical measurement tasks or the ANALYSETTE 22 NanoTec plus, the high-end instrument for measurements down to the nano range, for maximum precision and sensitivity for the smallest particles through the measurement of the backward scattering in a third laser beam.

Each ANALYSETTE 22 consists of a compact measuring unit that can be quickly and easily combined with various dispersion units for dry respectively wet measurements. This allows you to buy only what you need for your applications.

For easy automation of measurement the Fritsch AutoSampler can simply be placed on top of the wet dispersion unit and is immediately ready for use, without requiring any manual connections or cables. Up to 26 samples in 40 ml-containers can be measured simultaneously: sample feeding, dispersion, measurement and cleaning are performed automatically.

New Fibre Remote Nano-Particle Size Analyser for High Accuracy In Situ Measurements and Process Monitoring

Cordouan Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the VASCO FlexTM. Based on patented and field proven technologies, VASCO Flex is a fully versatile and flexible particle size analyser which integrates advanced single mode optical fibre arrangements to bring in clever and unique ways particle size measurements to your process. The flexibility of the optical fibre design allows proposing various measurement configurations tailored to your applications to better fit your constraints. Currently VASCO Flex is proposed with three different off the shelve probe options: a standalone tri axis bench set up for measurements at 90° on standard cuvette cell; an optical fibre remote probe head for in situ and non contact measurements; a small foot print fibre remote cell with the patented dual thickness controller (DTC) system as in a standard VASCO system for measurements in limited access and/or confined environments.

In combination with the NanoQTM proprietary software, VASCO Flex is designed to be robust, accurate, easy to implement and operate,

allowing the user to address a large range of measurement configurations and of applications, such as: combined and simultaneous SAXS and DLS measurement systems for NP synthesis and growth process monitoring inside a glass capillary; in situ emulsion

synthesis monitoring in high-pressure high-temperature autoclave/reactor (ex supercritical CO2 synthesis reactor- 80 bars-60°C); in situ characterisation of ultrafine bubbles (micron and sub-micron size) for generation process control and stability analysis; measurement in controlled and/or limited access environment conditions; in situ measurement of Ferro Fluid NP size kinetics under high magnetic field conditions.

The VASCO FlexTM system has been developed within the SNOW control (FP7) collaborative project funded by European Commission. 29180pr@reply-direct.com

As protein-based drugs become more important in treating major diseases, producers face the critical challenge of deeply characterising these highly-complex molecules for efficacy and safety, as well as to meet quality requirements. Now there’s a new software tool designed to increase the speed, quality and confidence in comprehensive biotherapeutic protein characterisation useful for drug development and production quality control.

Thermo Scientific PepFinder software is designed to streamline relative and absolute quantitation, and identification of proteins from biological samples using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, interferons, and insulin must be produced in biologically-active forms that have proper folding and have specific post-translational modificiations (PTM). Traditional analysis of these complex biological molecules is highly complex and time-consuming. PepFinder software uses multidimensional dynamic search capabilities to automatically integrate complex data into concise reports.

“This is a new paradigm for peptide mapping data analysis,” said Ken Miller, Vice President, marketing mass spectrometry for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Customers can expect to reduce analysis time from weeks to hours in some cases, while generating high-confidence, comprehensive characterisation reports, including known and unknown modifications.”

“Using PepFinder, a complex protein was analysed with great details (including PTMs), and with great ease and speed!” said Shiaw-Lin (Billy) Wu, Head of Analytical Sciences at BioAnalytix and Research Associate Professor at Northeastern University.

PepFinder software, based on Mass Analyzer software licensed from Amgen, is compatible with Thermo Scientific LC-MS instruments, including the industry-leading high resolution, accurate-mass Orbitrap-based systems. This software is designed for fast, high- quality PTM profiles and peptide identifications based on a novel prediction algorithm. The software displays sequence coverage maps, automates relative changes in site specific PTMs for rapid monitoring of modifications in a single sample or across sample comparison. The software is written to provide an automated workflow for glycopeptides ID, disulfide bond mapping and other common PTM’s, including oxidation, deamidation and phosphorylationThis can eliminate time consuming and error-prone manual PTM mapping.
