32 FTIR Gas Monitor for Diverse Applications

Quantitech recently supplied Euro Environmental Services in Ireland with a transportable Gasmet FTIR multiparameter gas analyser. Euro Environmental's Managing Director Geoff Fitzpatrick, said the analyser: “is proving invaluable in many varied applications across a broad selection of industries.”

Commenting on the benefits of adding FTIR to Euro Environmental’s fleet of instruments, Geoff Fitzpatrick added: “We have a large customer base spread across a wide range of industries including those with complex emissions such as thermal oxidisers, waste incinerators, pharmaceutical and combustion plants. We need to be able to measure a wide range of gases, across a broad selection of temperature and moisture contents, working with a large number of abatement techniques. It follows therefore, that we need reliable, accurate transportable technology that is sufficiently flexible to be able to accommodate such a wide range of applications. The FTIR from Quantitech fulfils that need.”

20 Years of Pioneering PCR Plastics

Celebrations have taken place to mark 20 years of expertise in high-precision plastic injection moulding at the Thermo Fisher Scientific centre of excellence for plastics and tool making in Ashford, Kent, England. Used and relied on by life scientists worldwide, Thermo Scientific ABgene™ PCR plates and tubes made at the site are known worldwide for their quality, reliability and innovative and problem-solving designs.

The precision-engineered, superior quality Thermo Scientific ABgene PCR plastics range, which has been developed and produced in Ashford since 1990, came under the Thermo Fisher Scientific umbrella in November 2006. Manufacturing expertise at the facility has enabled the company to introduce many important design features to PCR plates including thin-walled wells that allow rapid and uniform heat transfer for reduced cycle times and improved sensitivity. Optically clear wells, with an exceptionally smooth surface to prevent binding of enzymes, primers and templates, and raised well rims, which ensure a good seal and protect valuable samples from cross-contamination and loss through evaporation, are examples of other innovative products developed and manufactured at the facility. The state-of-the-art ISO class 8 (100,000) injection moulding cleanroom also ensures that the quality of Thermo Scientific ABgene PCR plastics remains the best in the industry.

Industrial Water Monitors Added to Marketing Portfolio

Intellitect Water has appointed Elga Process Water to market the Intellisonde™ water quality monitors in the UK and Irish industrial market sectors. The Intellisonde™ is a small water quality monitor that can be inserted into pressurised pipes to monitor up to 12 parameters. It was originally developed to continuously monitor in-pipe water within drinking water distribution networks. However, Intellitect Water CEO Tony Halker, said: "The ability to monitor water quality between the treatment plant and the tap has been a revelation for the water industry, but there is high demand for such a facility within process water, either as a protection from feed water problems or for process monitoring."

The Intellisonde™ records data internally, but with a GPRS option it is able to issue alarms and to be interrogated remotely. This alarm facility will be of great interest to those in a variety of industries for whom water quality is vitally important in process control.

Industries for which the Intellisonde™ is targeted include food and beverage, power, health, automotive, pharmaceutical, aerospace, biotechnology and research. In many of these markets water quality is critically important, so a change in water quality can have serious consequences, such as shutdowns and extra maintenance.

Elga Process Water is part of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, a subsidiary of Veolia Water. Mark Dyson is delighted with the new agreement, adding: "As a total solutions provider of purified water systems with over 30,000 installations in the UK and Ireland, the Intellisonde™ will be a very useful addition to our portfolio of products and services. It will provide existing customers with the opportunity to add greater visibility of water quality to their systems and offer prospective customers with the chance to include the latest monitoring technology in new plant."

REMEMBER: If you have any demand not covered by a standard probe, consult Sentek – We have built our business on flexibility and consideration for customer needs.

The PREVI Colour Gram from bioMérieux offers clinical microbiology laboratories an automated solution for routine gram staining. Designed to streamline the laboratory’s workflow, the system’s innovative spray nozzles offer standardised results in just five minutes, for all specimen types.

The PREVI Colour Gram allows users to determine Crystal Violet and Iodine volumes for optimised staining for any specimen thickness, and a choice of nine decolourising cycles minimises reagent usage.

Each slide is loaded into a separate chamber to avoid cross-contamination, and sealed reagent containers and an integrated waste container improve operator safety while at the same time allowing you to follow local waste disposal guidelines.

The flexibility of the PREVI Colour Gram can be further enhanced by addition of a PREVI Rotor, transforming the system into a compact, easy-to-programme cyto- centrifuge for up to eight slides.

BioMerieux’s PREVI Colour Gram and PREVI Rotor free up time and resources for more important tasks, while helping to fulfil clinical pathology accreditation through enhanced biosecurity.
