Simple, Low Cost Thermostatic Baths
from Huber… The new Huber MPC (Micro Processor Control), available from Radleys, is a modern, low cost immersion circulator which has been purposely designed with basic func - tionalities - so you only pay for what you need.
The MPC immersion circulators operate across the temperature range of -30°C to +200°C and combine with either polycarbonate or stainless steel baths to provide precision heating and cooling for both routine and sensitive laboratory procedures.
The MPC controller has a large temperature display, LED indicators for the pump and three easy to use keys for a simple user interface. As with all Huber thermostatic devices, safety is a priority; with the MPC range featuring over temperature alarm and low-liquid level protection. All MPC models also feature a powerful pressure and suction pump for optimum performance.
For customers requiring more functionality, the MPC is available in an advanced version, which offers the added benefits of an RS232 interface, as well as the facility for using an external sensor.
The MPC immersion circulator can be purchased on its own or with a bath. Baths are available in different materials, and sizes from 6 to 25 litres. The polycarbonate baths are transparent with operating temperatures up to 100°C. The insulated stainless steel baths have a maximum working temperature of 200°C. For sub-ambient applications the MPC can be combined with a refrigerated bath.

Precision Scientific Glassblowing Services
Making your Chemistry Safer, Cleaner and Faster…
The Heat-On range, available from Radleys, is an easy to use heating and stirring work station. Designed to accept standard round bottom flasks from 10ml to 5 litres, they are the safest, fastest most efficient way of heating and stirring a round bottom flask…
The risk of oil fires and injury from hot oil spills, plus the mess and disposal costs associates with the use of oil, mean that oil bathes are no longer considered safe or environmentally friendly working practice in labs. Heat-On reduces the risks by offering a safe, cost effective and high performance alternative to heating round bottom flasks. For additional safety optional lifting handles can easily be attached and removed allowing the user to remove the block from the heat source even whilst it remains hot.
Manufactured from solid aluminium, Heat-On provides even heat transfer to the entire block, preventing hot spots. The unique deep well shape has been proven to avoid sticking and cracking of flasks maximising the heating surface area further contributing to faster heat-up. Heat-On is available with an innovative Fluoropolymer coating that gives superb chemical resistance to most solvents and alkalis and extends the product life, but if preferred, a standard lower cost anodised finish is also available.
The weight saving design of Heat-On reduces the thermal mass of the block, making heat up times significantly faster. Tests have shown that Heat-On can boil a 250ml flask of water in under 11 minutes making them faster and more efficient than oil bathes or other competitive blocks. As well as providing up to 66% faster heat-up than traditional heating blocks the advanced design of Heat-On blocks uses 30% less energy to achieve the same results, saving money and reducing the environmental impact of your experiments.

Circle no. 602 Accurate and Reproducible Control of Polymerisation Experiments
Radleys have published a Technical Bulletin that demonstrates how the Lara™ Controlled Laboratory Reactor (CLR) is able to accurately and reproducibly control polymerisation experiments.
The new application note describes a series of experiments in which the Lara CLR was used to automatically control the addition of monomer, initiator and reagent where both linear and variable rates of addition of feed materials were employed.
The
experiments demonstrate that the Lara CLR can be used to automatically ensure that the molecular weight and structure of the resulting polymer can be predicted, controlled and reproduced.
The first experiment was run with a predetermined increasing monomer addition rate. The second experiment was run with a linear rate of monomer addition and a decreasing variable rate of initiator addition. In both experiments the monomer addition rate was gradually increased over several hours to ensure that the relative
concentration of monomer stayed constant throughout the multiple feed step of the reaction. As the test polymerisation reaction was exothermic, the experiments included the use of feedback loops to ensure safe and controlled additions.
Lara is a flexible, modular CLR unit which enables rapid interchange of glass vessels from 100ml to 10 litre and the integration of third party devices such as circulators, pumps, balances, syringe pumps etc making it the idea process development tool. Lara’s intuitive, easy- to-use; drag-and-drop software allows full control and data logging of all devices and parameters.
