Hach Lange Pocket Colorimeter II Small in Size, Large in Capability

The POCKET Colorimeter II single parameter meters can be used for key parameters to evaluate LANGE cuvette tests in addition to HACH tests. This dual functionality enables you to make the most of two key benefits; cost- effective meters combined with superb reagents for a variety of quality standards.

The POCKET II measures over 30 parameters from Ammonia to Zinc and can also analyse both ammonia and phosphate on just one portable instrument:

Ammonia (ranges from 0.015 - 47mg/l) Phosphate (ranges from 0.05 - 20 mg/l) Now with even greater flexibility

Each mini meter can be used with the pre-configured calibration curves or self- programming by the user for special applications. This makes it possible to determine a parameter using both feed and drain samples.

For laboratories concerned by certification or accreditation, the use of certified reference materials traceable to their national standards is extremely important. But how can you be sure of the quality and traceability of your pH and conductivity measurements?

Many manufacturers offer standard solutions, but they do not all have the same degree of traceability.

For example, beware of statements like ‘NIST Traceable’ this often only means that a NIST reference material has been used to calibrate the instrument rather than a full traceability to NIST.

Standards should be delivered with a certificate of conformity and traceability giving details including the batch number of the product and reference material, the certified value and its uncertainty, the length of time for which the certified value is guaranteed and measurement and control procedures.

To help guide you through this potential minefield, Dr Geoff King, Lab Product Manager at HACH LANGE has produced a guide with key questions every laboratory should ask about what is being purchased.

This guide can help

evaluate quality and traceability by addressing key points. Eg, How does the reference material producer demonstrate the traceability of its certified values back to the SI or other relevant national or international standards?

Hach Lange has announced a further suite of IntelliCAL™ sensors for use with its HQd digital water quality meters. As a result, users will be able to swap sensors quickly and easily for the measurement of six key parameters (BOD, Conductivity, DO, ORP, pH, and sodium).

Ruggedised sensors with a choice of cable length (from 1m up to 30m) are available for some parameters in addition to versions to suit challenging conditions, such as low-ionic strength water. Uniquely, all IntelliCAL™ probes interchange fully with a single HQd meter, which recognises both the probe and its calibration history.

Operation of the HQd meters is further simplified with a large illuminated graphic display that guides users quickly and clearly through the measurement procedure. The operator and sample names are displayed and recorded, and the meter gives both visual and audio indication of stable readings. It can even remind users when calibration is due, so the need for operator training is minimal.

All IntelliCAL™ probes feature advanced sensor technology. For example, the dissolved oxygen and BOD probes feature HACH LANGE’s revolutionary LDO™ technology (luminescent dissolved oxygen) which means no frequent electrolyte or membrane replacement is necessary, just an annual change of sensor cap.

They are waterproof in line with IP 67 (waterproof for up to 30 mins to a depth of 1m). The POCKET Colorimeters are also suitable for prolonged use, with the batteries lasting for 2,000 analyses.

All models come with a fully equipped carrying case. For more information, contact sarah.blayds@hach-lange.co.uk or go to www.hach-lange.co.uk.
