Detcon’s (USA) rugged new CXT-Series wireless gas detection sensors are designed for use in heavy industrial environments and especially suitable for mobile applications. These “environmentally bulletproof” field devices include fully encapsulated sensor electronics housed in a stainless steel enclosure, thereby eliminating potential damage that may be caused from water ingress. The CXT is equipped with one of two sensor technologies - electrochemical to monitor toxic gases, and infra-red for combustible hydrocarbons. Power is supplied by a rechargeable Smart Battery Pack or disposable battery options. When powered by the Smart Battery Pack, infra- red sensors can work continuously
for more than six months, and indefinitely with accompanying solar panels.
While all CXT-Series gas detectors use an innovative “Self-Healing Mesh Network” topology, the CXT-300 is equipped with the most advanced innovation in network safety. Designed with Detcon’s patent pending “Fault Tolerant Safety Network” technology, the CXT-300’s processing power is shared among all
network devices, allowing any device in the network to take over as “master” should the designated master device fail. Consequently, the CXT-300 does not depend on a single controller to maintain network operation and ensure safety. Detcon’s patent pending “Fault Tolerant Safety Network” guarantees no single point of failure.

The smartMODUL-FLOW from smartGAS Mikrosensorik GmbH (Germany) is now available for the detection of ethylene (C2H4). The new gas sensor can detect ethylene with concentrations up to 2.4 Vol.-%.
Ethylene is a plant hormone playing an important role in the ripening process of fruit like apple, banana, or tomato. This effect was already known in ancient times, where ripe and unripe fruits were stored together. The ripe fruits emit ethylene and stimulate the ripening process of the unripe fruits. Today bananas are harvested green in South America and Asia and are shipped to Europe in cooling containers or on cooling ships, where the ripening process is stopped. After arriving in Europe the bananas finish the ripening in special storages, where gassing with an ethylene concentration between 100 and 1,000 ppm takes place. For optimisation of the ripening process the concentration of ethylene has to be monitored very carefully. The new smartMODUL-FLOW has a detection range of 0 to 2,000 ppm and is therefore the ideal sensor for this sensible application.
The sensor utilises infrared (NDIR) absorption and has various advantages compared with other types of sensors. By using highly selective IR absorption technology and integrated optical gas filters cross sensitivities with other gases are reduced to an absolute minimum. Due to the dual-beam-technique the sensor shows practically no ageing or long term drift. The sensor is available with many standard interfaces like Modbus ASCII with RS485, UART or 4…20 mA enabling an easy integration into existing control architectures.

Next Generation of Software for Users of Advanced Gas Detection Controller
Oldham (France) is pleased to announce the release of COM43, a simple application that gives the user access to the advanced features of the MX 43 controller and makes programming fast and easy for the user.
The MX 43 was developed to meet user needs in terms of flexibility, quality and ease of use. Fully scalable, the MX 43 is now available with a programming CD that is compatible with any MX 43 controllers already in use. Users save precious time by configuring the controller's parameters on their computer and transferring these parameters directly to the MX 43 using a USB cable.
“It’s an unbelievable time-saver,” states Michel Spellemaeker, Oldham’s global director of product management. “We are excited to get it in to the hands of customers whose busy schedules will certainly appreciate this simple and effective solution.”
COM43 features a graphic display for easy relay programming, architecture is displayed progressively as the programming process is completed and access to an Oldham gas monitor library which is pre-programmed according to industry standards. A highly practical "copy-paste" function ensures accuracy from one sensor to the next and it has a "verification/validation" feature to to flag any programming
errors before validating. This user-friendly system allows the user to transfer settings to the controller in just a few seconds. The CD also contains the French and English user manuals for the COM43 and the MX 43 controller.
GMI (USA) have announced the release of the sleek and sturdy PS200 5-way Charger. The charging unit securely holds up to five PS200 portable gas detetors simultaneously and can be placed on a flat surface or mounted to a wall. Gas detectors are easily loaded in the unit with or without the rubber boot fitting. The new charger features a universal power supply and short circuit protection. Maximum charge time is less than 4 hours.
The PS200 portable gas detector is a rugged, easy to use instrument ideal for use in confined spaces and hotworks. Both lightweight and durable, the instrument monitors and displays up to four hazardous gas conditions simultaneously using catalytic bead sensor technology for a wide range of combustible gases, and electrochemical sensors for carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, and oxygen deficiency. Single button activation allows the end user to quickly switch between diffusion and pump modes, offering the ultimate in flexibility and ease.
