Stack emission specialists launch air quality consultancy division

Alkali Environmental are expanding their services to include an air quality consultancy department.

The consultancy division will complement their UKAS & MCERTS stack emissions offerings, giving clients a complete package to industrial air quality by providing services such as permitting, dispersion modelling, ambient air quality and odour monitoring.

The consultancy division will also be able to provide assistance with

planning applications in the built environment, by providing air quality and lighting assessments for new development proposals, following the process through to providing construction dust monitoring and mitigation. The company has also invested in ambient air quality monitoring equipment which can be used in a variety of projects giving clients air quality measurements in real-time.

Alkali Environmental is committed to providing high-quality services that meet the needs of its clients while protecting the environment and public health.

Heading up the consultancy division is Matthew O’Neill with over 19 years’ of experience working in the air quality fi eld across consultancy, national government, local authority, and the private sector. Matthew added “Air pollution is a signifi cant issue that affects the health of individuals and the environment, and having a dedicated department to provide consultation on air quality can help organisations take proactive measures to reduce their impact.

To protect public health and the environment, the industrial emissions of smoke and toxic gases are regulated, and plant operators must monitor and report these emissions to demonstrate compliance with regulations.

AMETEK Land offers a range of solutions to fi t different process needs, including periodic fl ue gas measurements, cross-stack monitoring, extractive sampling, and continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS).

These solutions include portable and fi xed emissions monitors as well as non-contact thermometers, delivering measurements that can improve the effi ciency and environmental performance of many industrial processes.

For example, the Lancom 4 portable fl ue gas analyser is a rugged, versatile analyser that measures up to eight fl ue gases simultaneously, and is ideal for periodic checks to demonstrate compliance, and for performing quick checks before stack testing. While it has limited functionality compared to a CEMS, it offers an inexpensive alternative for smaller processes where using a CEMS would be uneconomical.

At the other end of the scale, AMETEK Land offers the FGA900 Series multigas analyser, a compact, self-contained CEMS that measures carbon monoxide, nitric oxide and oxygen. Cross-stack opacity monitors, such as the reliable Model 4500 MkIII, are also available for measuring particulate matter in fl ue gases.

Additionally, AMETEK Land has decades of experience in non-contact temperature measurements for industrial applications, with an extensive range of fi xed and portable spot measurement pyrometers. These can provide measurements that optimise many industrial processes to reduce the output of harmful emissions.

“Accurate fl ue gas measurements are the key to reducing pollutant emissions, reducing fuel cost and minimizing the production of carbon dioxide,” said Derek Stuart, AMETEK Land Product Manager.

40 years of precise acoustic wind profi ling from

the Arctic Circle to Africa Remtech’s globally renowned SODAR technology has been providing precise, yet user-friendly, acoustic wind profi ling data for a wide variety of demanding market sectors from Africa to Alaska for over 4 decades. With experience of providing solutions for an eclectic list of customers in locations such as wind farms, offshore platforms, airports and military installations. Remtech have provided cutting edge technology as well as service, training, and instrument rental in 55 countries.

The systems are built around Doppler SODAR, to provide a vertical atmospheric profi le of wind direction and speed, as well as thermal stratifi cation with Remtech’s instruments offering turbulence parameters of up to 400, 700 and 3,000 meters average altitude range.

Heavy, cumbersome, altitude-limited instruments have been on the sodar market for some years. As this outdated equipment reaches the end of its useful life and support is withdrawn, the PA-XS Remtech Sodar represents an ideal replacement for most applications, especially in the wind energy fi eld.

The PA-XS weighs just 20kg. Its power consumption is only 10W and its average range is 400m AGL. The data availability is more than 90% at 200m AGL. The Remtech sodar never outputs outliers, which means users have direct access to the data without requiring any service. The squared correlation is higher than 0.97 when compared with a certifi ed meteorological tower.

Remtech can offer such a small, high-performance sodar thanks to the company’s unique signal processing software, which has been constantly refi ned during the last 38 years.

Please contact Remtech for a comprehensive technical and fi nancial offer. The company also offers very attractive standard exchange conditions for all sodars delivered by its competitors during the past 10 years.
