Safe gas detection where many solutions would fail


There are many gas monitoring applications which do not only place high demands on equipment, but often also make it impossible to install fixed transmitters in certain locations – let alone allow for staff with portable de- tectors to enter the area. This applies to very hot, cold, moist, dry, dusty or strongly pollut- ed areas as well as cleanrooms, which must be kept in sterile conditions. For areas that need to be monitored but cannot or should not be entered, such as confined pipe systems or dan- gerously narrow spaces, a different solution than standard transmitters or personal detec- tors is needed.


An intake system no larger than a medium sized pizza If toxic, corrosive or combustible gases and vapors or the oxygen concentration need to be monitored consistent- ly in these environments, GfG’s GMA200-MGSS sampling system is a good choice. Its advantage: as opposed to most intake devices, which are usually bulky and expensive, it is a compactly designed and economic all-in-one system no bigger than a standard GfG housing for wall-mounting (smaller than 30 x 30 cm, without accessories). The simple wall mounting system allows for installation wherever you need it: a safe, central location or right at the entrance to the area you need to monitor. The GMA200-MGSS is equipped with a modular sensor block which can be configured according to your requirements. There is room for up to three sensors (1x catalytic, 2x electro- chemical and / or infrared) on the inside of the gas sampling system, allowing you to monitor up to three different gases simultaneously. Choose from sensors for over a dozen gases, including NH₃, H₂, O₂, CO₂ or H₂S as well as monitoring of the lower explosion limit (LEL) and combine them according to your re- quirements. The powerful pump absorbs sample gas from up to six different measuring points. At the same time, the pump’s flow test ensures that the pump per- formance does not fall below 0.5 slpm and the sam- ple gas is steadily transported to the sensor block. Choosing the right equipment is especially important since gases from areas with challenging environmen- tal influences are sampled for analyzing.

Useful add-ons for different applications The temperature of the sample gas can be regulated with a copper cooling coil before it reaches the sensor. Should you have to monitor reactive gases, such as ammonia, which would corrode the copper, there is also a cooling coil made from stainless-steel. For samples whose high humidity would affect the measured values, we recommend a water barrier with condensation precipitation. The optional flame arrester enables safe sampling of gases even in potentially explosive areas. During regular calibra- tions, a service technician can simply switch between the in- take ducts and test gas inlets using a switching valve.

GMA200-MGSS can also be used as an evaluation unit for up to 12 external transmitters. Any digital GfG transmitter can be connected via the digital RS-485 interface. An additional 4 GMA200-RT/D relay modules with 16 switching contacts each


can be connected via the bus, should you need further capacities for safety func- tions that cannot be implemented with the GMA200-MGSS’s 8 internal relays. The color-backlit display, the 5-button interface as well as the GMA200-MGSS’s local visual and acoustic alarm provide a handy way of reading the measured val- ues, operating the device and evaluating the situation. In complex gas detection systems, such as those with several in- take systems and / or transmitters, all measured values, alarms and relay sta- tuses can be displayed on a touch-dis- play TFT panel PC (either 8, 15 or 21.5 inches) using the visualization software.
