Dates Announced for CEM 2011


Record US$3.4 Million Order from National Water Monitoring Programs


The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 earmarked $14.6 million to the U.S. Geological Survey for upgrades to its 7,500-station national streamgage network, and in direct response, has purchased $3.4 million dollars worth of hi-technology electro-acoustic instruments from San Diego-based SonTek/YSI.


In addition to the popular FlowTracker and Argonaut products, the order


also included 33 of the award winning, multi-frequency RiverSurveyor S5/M9 systems.


The acoustic Doppler instruments will be used for water velocity

Halma Announces Record Earnings and Strategy for Continued Expansion


Ocean Optics Expands 3-Year Warranty


Ocean Optics (The Netherlands) has expanded its exclusive 3-Year Warranty beyond its spectrometers to include additional products such as light sources and other accessories.


Beginning July 1, 2010, spectrometers, light sources and sampling accessories purchased from Ocean Optics and its authorised distributors are now covered for a full three years against manufacturing defects – regardless of application. Additionally, items such as optical fibres and probes are now covered for a full 12 months.


Ocean Optics’ warranty covers parts and labour needed


to repair manufacturing defects that occur during the coverage period, as well as the costs of shipping warranty- related repairs from U.S. customers to Ocean Optics and from Ocean Optics back to the customers.


Halma p.l.c. has announced record results with profits up 9% to £86m and revenue rising by 1% to £459m. The UK-based group - which includes companies such as Halma Water Management, Palintest, Radio-Tech and Tritech - has posted strong financials to raise shareholder dividends by 7%, the thirty-first consecutive year of increases greater than 5%. The company plans to augment its organic growth efforts through acquisition of complementary technology companies, as it has done for many years.


Halma’s subsidiaries operate in three main market sectors: Health and Analysis, Infrastructure Sensors, and Industrial Safety, creating shareholder value with consistent organic growth and sound acquisitions. Trolex (UK) has just formed a new Industrial Division within the company. It reflects the company’s response to the growing markets in oil and gas, powergen and power distribution, and the water utilities and metal industries.

who has been appointed Trolex Global Sales Director, having formerly been a director of Crowcon Instruments with over 20 years’ experience in gas detection. Commenting on the formation of the new Industrial Division, Trolex managing director Glyn Pierce- Jones said, “This is a new era for Trolex. We plan to mirror the success and reputation we have in the mining market with this new focus on industry.” He continued, “The company has recently invested some £3 million in product development putting Trolex at the forefront of systems and sensor design for safety with products like the new Sentro 8, an integrated multi-purpose sensing station. By 2013, we plan to see £10 million sales from this new Industrial Division.”

manufacture, and support. Being located in the high technology region of San Diego affords us the ability to attract and retain high caliber technology professionals” he concluded.


The USGS collects streamflow information to determine how much water is available in different locations across the nation. Because the


effects of climate change on water availability could become a critical issue in certain regions of the nation, accurate long-term streamflow information is necessary to determine how water managers can respond and adapt to these changes.
