ION Science growth continues with acquisition of Analox


ION Science, a leading developer and manufacturer of PID gas sensors and instruments, has announced the acquisition of Analox Group, a gas sensing and analysis manufacturer.


“This is a major step on our strategic growth journey,” said

However, both companies invest heavily in research and development, so by working together, we are really excited by the opportunities this acquisition presents for accelerating future growth.” Despite the acquisition, both companies will continue to operate separately, but will offer customers a broader range of solutions. ION Science will be able to expand its range of measurement technologies, allowing it to offer detection and measurement solutions for a wide range of gases. Analox Managing Director, Emma Harbottle, said she is excited to see what the future holds for the two companies.

Asia to dominate global polyethylene terephthalate capacity additions through 2026

Asia is set to lead the global polyethylene terephthalate (PET) industry capacity additions with a share of 58% by 2026 from new-build and expansion projects between 2022 and 2026, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.


GlobalData’s latest report “Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Industry Installed Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Forecast by Region and Countries Including Details of All Active Plants, Planned and Announced Projects, 2021-2026,” reveals that the total PET capacity of new- build and expansion projects in Asia is expected to reach 4.68 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2026. The PET capacity additions are supported by increasing demand for the polymer in packaging in pharmaceuticals, food, and beverage industries.


Vinuthna Bidar, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Asia is expected to add a capacity of 4.63 mtpa from five new build planned and announced projects, while the remaining capacity of 0.05 mtpa is anticipated to come from one planned expansion project.”


China and India will be the major contributors to PET capacity additions in Asia. A significant part of the capacity additions in China will be from the announced project, Zhejiang Petrochemical Daishan Polyethylene Terephthalate Plant 2, which is expected to come onstream by 2026 with a capacity of 2 mtpa.


Expected to begin operations in 2022, Henan Longyu Coal Chemical Luoyang Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Plant, which is a planned project, will add 0.4 mtpa to China’s PET capacity additions.


Vinuthna concludes: “India will see a significant capacity addition from Reliance Industries Dahej Polyethylene Terephthalate Plant 2, which is an announced project with a capacity of 1 mtpa. The planned project, Indo Rama Synthetics Nagpur Polyethylene Terephthalate Plant, will add a capacity of 0.23 mtpa to the PET capacity additions in the country. The projects are expected to come on stream by 2026 and 2022, respectively.”

Neptune Energy confirms new discovery in the Norwegian Sea


Neptune Energy and its licence partners announce a new discovery at the Calypso exploration well (PL938) in the Norwegian Sea.


Preliminary estimates are between 1 - 3.5 million standard cubic meters (MSm3) of recoverable oil equivalents, corresponding to 6-22 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).


Calypso is Neptune Energy’s third discovery in six months on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.


Managing Director for Neptune Energy in Norway and the UK, Odin Estensen, said: “We actively explore in areas close to existing infrastructure. These near-field discoveries allow for low cost and low carbon developments


“Initial analysis of Calypso indicates commercial potential. Together with our partners in the Calypso licence we will now study options to effectively develop the discovery using nearby infrastructure.”


The Calypso discovery is located within one of Neptune’s core areas, 14 kilometres north-west of the Draugen field and 22 kilometres north- east of the Njord A platform.


Well 6407/8-8S was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,496 metres and encountered an estimated 8 metre thick gas column and 30-metre thick oil column in a 131 metre thick Garn Formation sandstone reservoir, of good to very good quality.


Calypso was drilled by the Deepsea Yantai, a semi-submersible rig owned by CIMC and operated by Odfjell Drilling.
