Yokogawa signs global reseller license agreement with Chevron for PETRO Planning Technology
Yokogawa Electric Corporation has announced that it has entered into a strategic agreement with Chevron U.S.A. Inc. to resell PETRO, Chevron’s proprietary petroleum supply chain planning software. The application supports decision-making regarding feedstock selection, operations parameters, and product mix optimisation, as well as future scenario analysis, at a multi-plant level. Yokogawa’s wholly-owned subsidiary, KBC, will manage the PETRO business with Chevron.
KBC is a world leader in process simulation and optimisation, as well as supply chain scheduling, and will make the PETRO planning application available as part of its supply chain optimisation portfolio. It is anticipated that this combination of the simulation, planning and scheduling technologies will enable oil refi ners and petrochemical producers to take a rigorous, holistic approach to managing their process operations – from feedstock receipt through processing and blending to quality control and outbound logistics as well as utilities and environmental aspects.
PETRO has over 30 years’ development history at Chevron, and has been implemented throughout the company’s global operations for key operational decision-making. “We attribute over $40 million per year in benefi ts from our use of PETRO in a typical refi nery,” explains Walt Szopiak, vice president of Downstream Technology & Services at Chevron Energy Technology Company. “This agreement with Yokogawa is consistent with our on-going commitment to further evolve and refi ne this vital application.”
Recognising that customer issues are requiring more complex, customised, organisation-wide solutions, in 2017 Yokogawa introduced its industrial automation business concept, Synaptic Business Automation, which creates sustainable value by connecting everything within customers’ organisations. Supply chain optimisation is one key area where Yokogawa is integrating its business and domain knowledge with digital automation technologies, and co-innovating with customers to drive their business process transformation.
Mentor Ranga Yogeshwar hands over the award to VEGA Managing Director Isabel Grieshaber and VEGA Marketing Director Matthias Veith (Copyright: KD Busch/compamedia)
For the 25th time, The TOP 100 competition has selected the most innovative German SMEs. This year, VEGA Grieshaber KG is a leading innovator. This was the result of a verdict made by the scientifi c director of TOP 100, Professor Dr. Nikolaus Franke. As mentor of TOP 100, Ranga Yogeshwar honoured the company from Schiltach together with Franke and compamedia on June 29, 2018 at the award ceremony in Ludwigsburg within the framework of the 5th German SME Summit . In the independent selection process, the company, with its 610 employees, particularly shone in the categories “Innovation Climate” and “Innovation- Promoting Top Management”.
Driving forward these developments is a top priority for the third- generation family business with 610 employees. Managing director Isabel Grieshaber ensures the right framework conditions in the innovation work and the appropriate team mix. What is particularly important to her is that all managers are socially competent, devote enough time, space and confi dence to new ideas in their departments, and that they examine these ideas without bias. “Thinking outside the box” is the initiative for fi nding new ideas, in which the employees get complete freedom to look around their environment and talk about innovations. The resulting development processes are deliberately not pressed into the corset of a classical organisational structure in this fi rm, but are driven forward in interdisciplinary and often also intercultural teams by the person(s) who had the idea. This is a good system, because instead of using statistics and often unrealistic project plans, it relies on the many years of experience, self-motivation and high competence of qualifi ed idea providers.
