Measurement and Testing A new and holistic approach to on-site oil analysis

Spectro Scientifi c has introduced TruVu 360™ Enterprise Fluid Intelligence Platform, an all-encompassing web-based fl uid analysis data management system. The new platform simplifi es and streamlines the fl uid analysis process so high-quality information and actionable intelligence facilitate rapid decision-making. It closes the gap between maintenance recommendations on the oil analysis report and the impact on continuous process improvement. Visually and graphically, it provides a dashboard so management can see the effectiveness of the program across the enterprise in real time.TruVu 360 integrates Spectro’s MiniLab on-site oil analysis hardware used in industrial applications in manufacturing, mining, oil & gas and power generation.

Spectro Scientifi c president and CEO Brian Mitchell said, “TruVu 360 solutions represent a breakthrough in real-time fl uid intelligence through its seamless, enterprise-wide integration of hardware, software, and services. The combination of immediate analysis data with information management and diagnostic interpretation input as well as performance measurement evaluations will boost users’ uptime and cost savings and thereby maximize their operational effi ciency and overall profi tability, preparing them for full participation in Industry 4.0.”

TruVu 360 addresses many of the current issues and frustrations with current fl uid analysis methodologies. For example, it can be diffi cult to standardize workfl ows across an enterprise because of wide variations in process times, different levels of laboratory expertise, and without a tool to monitor and visualize the results globally. Perhaps most concerning, it is virtually impossible to leverage any of the improvements learned because of all the fragmented data gleaned from many sources. Now, with TruVu 360 Enterprise Fluid Intelligence, these challenges and more are solved with its standardized and adaptive “Rules Engine” diagnostic process, its Enterprise Cloud Software access and its “at a glance” device dashboard that refl ects conditions and results in real time. In essence, TruVu 360 enables users to track fl uid condition on an immediate basis to detect and ameliorate fl uid contamination and machine wear as well as manage proactive maintenance and fl uid replacement activities.

In operation, TruVu 360 is a web browser-based user interface that can be installed on a local PC, central server and hosted in a public cloud. There are three main user categories: The Enterprise user can access and manage multiple sites and the

corporate dashboard console. The Site user has single site access and can be further restricted to certain areas of the site and can manage the oil analysis process. The Site Reader also has single site access and/or a read only access.

With regard to analytical hardware, the new program has been initially introduced with its MiniLab on-site oil analysis lab for industrial applications in manufacturing, mining, oil and gas and power generation. When performing measurements on-site, the MiniLab cuts the wait time for analysis results from days or weeks to minutes, compared to lab-based fl uid analysis, and enables users to make immediate maintenance decisions that reduce unexpected downtime and costs and eliminate potential catastrophic machine failures. The data produced also facilitate effi cient scheduling of proactive maintenance and fl uid renewal actions, improving utilization of resources and machine time. Over the next 12 months, Spectro’s entire suite of fl uid analysis instruments will work in concert with its TruVu 360 Enterprise Fluid Intelligence Platform.

46487pr@reply-direct.com Fast and reliable TDL analysis

For gas analysis applications in fi red heater control, Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) technologies have emerged as a reliable and fast response tool to ensure safety within the combustion process.

TDL measurement for carbon monoxide (CO) show a marked improvement in performance over alternative methods such as pellistor or thick fi lm sensors, due to its light-based technology.

The realisation that a fuel-rich environment is a potential source of explosions has moved CH4 analysis from a largely ignored measurement to a key safety monitoring requirement.

The increasing use of low-NOx burners, which are highly effective at reducing unwanted NOx emissions, but run a cooler, larger fl ame is inherently less stable. This fl ame instability is leading to the requirement for improved fl ame-out protection, and customers who use natural or refi nery gas as a fuel, have begun to use TDL analysers as part of the safety system.

Servomex’s TDL gas analyser, the SERVOTOUGH Laser 3 Plus combines the latest Wavelength Modulated Spectroscopy (WMS) measurement techniques with Servomex’s signal processing, to provide stable, repeatable results. Delivering a response within seconds, it is optimised for the measurement of O2

, CO or a combination of CH4 and CO in hazardous environments.

New solution for the rapid, on-site testing of sulphur in marine fuel oil

For More Info, email: email:

Hitachi High-Tech Analytical Science Corporation has launched a new solution dedicated to the fi eld-portable analysis of bunker fuel. The new X-MET8000 Optimum solution provides ship owners and port state control an alternative, portable option to benchtop XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) analysers to measure and monitor sulfur content in bunker fuel to meet the legislative requirements of the International Maritime Organisation’s global 2020 sulphur cap.

For More Info, email: email:

The X-MET8000 Optimum handheld XRF analyser can be easily taken from site to site and ship to ship. The instrument is factory- calibrated with a sulphur range of 0% to 5%, and calibrated to ASTM , D4294, IP336 and ISO8754. The solution also provides the end-user everything they need to carry out the analysis easily: sample cups, safety window and fi lm, light stand and safety shield, and a brand new sample tray to keep the cup and safety window stable during the analysis. With the X-MET, you can achieve real-time data transfer with our IOS and Android apps, and cloud service. It also has an embedded GPS to pinpoint where the analysis was performed to provide compliance reporting.

The new X-MET8000 handheld XRF solution complements Hitachi High-Tech’s existing laboratory-based sulphur analysers, LAB-X and X-Supreme, to provide ship owners and port state control fl exibility. Analysis can be carried out on-board a vessel by ship owners either using a benchtop or handheld XRF analyser, whilst port state control has the option of using benchtop analysers in laboratories and handheld analysers to perform spot-checks onboard vessels to ensure compliance.

Christelle Petiot, Hitachi Product Business Development Manager, said: “Ensuring compliance with the 2020 global sulphur cap regulation is a challenge for many organisations and for the industry. On-board testing is the most effective method to establish compliance. We’ve got a long history working with testing houses in ports and laboratories. The launch of our X-MET8000 Optimum solution compliments our LAB-X benchtop analyser, which has been used over the last 20 years to test sulfur in fuel. We’ve recently launched a new model, the LAB-X5000. It’s the fastest, easiest to use and most versatile model in the range’s 45 year history.

Our launch of the LAB-X5000 and X-MET8000 Optimum solution demonstrate how we are constantly evolving our product ranges to ensure ship owners and port authorities are able prove their compliance now and in the future.”
