Key Analyser Service Contract Awarded for Brazilian Locations
New Technology for Sub-ppm Chloride Monitoring
At the refinery, both organic and inorganic chlorides can lead to rapid corrosion of overhead lines and catalyst fouling downstream. Organic chlorides can show up in crude oil mainly as a contaminant. They originate from the crude oil production processes itself or from previously used transportation vessels. High levels of organic chlorides can foul up the heat exchangers and cause further corrosion, as well as poison catalysts.
Since organic chlorides are not removed in the desalting process, it’s critical to detect and remove them quickly before they cause issues further downstream. However, by the time these organics make it past the desalter to the distillation towers or to the finished product streams, they exist at very low levels that are not easy to detect using traditional technologies.
The new Clora 2XP Analyzer from XOS (USA) surpasses traditional XRF
limits, providing detection down to 0.07 ppm in hydrocarbons and allowing users to quickly make critical process decisions that can reduce maintenance costs and prevent downtime.
The newly designed, high performance x-ray optics powering the Clora 2XP Analyzer are ideal for monitoring chlorides below 0.5 ppm and providing enhanced process control. The Clora 2XP is also easy to use and provides analysis results in only 5-10 minutes. To begin, simply put the prepared sample in the sample cup, place it into the analyser, and press the “measure” button. A few minutes later, a direct measurement in ppm appears on the user-friendly interface screen. No need for titration. No consumables. No heating elements.
Servomex (UK) has been awarded a key annual service contract in Brazil by The Linde Group to provide annual preventative maintenance for all Servomex analysers at twenty-two locations across the country.
The contract for The Linde Group – a leading supplier of industrial, process and specialty gases, is serviced from Servomex’ Service Center in Sao Paulo - one of seven Servomex Centers around the world that form the Servomex Service Network. It provides total support for the lifetime operations of Servomex’s global install base via an on-site, expert team of fully certified and highly experienced mobile engineers, who collaborate with colleagues across the global Network.
Anderson Rovadoschi, Servomex Country Manager (Brazil) said: “We have worked closely with The Linde Group in Brazil since 2010 on two major projects involving our entire team, resulting in a strong working relationship based on trust and respect. With the addition of the Service Contract, which covers twenty- two sites across the country and includes three corrective requests per site, Servomex is the main supplier of analytical gas solutions to The Linde Group in Brazil. We look forward to taking this relationship forward.”
Servomex engineers are fully certified and highly experienced in delivering the Servomex product range. They are committed to providing customers with a superior service, whether for a routine maintenance visit, responding quickly to a breakdown or through an interactive training session. This unified approach to Service, delivered on a local-for-local basis, delivers fast, reactive support with a level of expertise and insight that is unrivalled.
There are nine distinct Service Network products, which combined cover the entire lifetime support requirement for any Servomex analyser or system and can be tailored for any customer. Ranging from analyser health checks to complete packages of system support, each product is designed and structured to fulfill key service requirements to the highest standards of quality and delivery.

Anton Paar (Austria) has launched the new ADU 5 automatic distillation unit – a fully automated, compact stand-alone distillation unit which is operated by touchscreen interface. This makes it the ideal solution for performing high- precision atmospheric distillation tests.
ADU 5 automatically recommends the best distillation conditions according to the respective program. The instrument’s excellent heat control guarantees an optimum standardised distillation rate, even for complicated mixtures. Due to the highly reactive Anton Paar heating system the distillation rate of ethanol- blended gasoline showing azeotropic behavior can be constantly kept between the ASTM D86 limits of 4 mL and 5 mL per minute. The final heat adjustment for the last 5 mL to distillate is applied fully automatically. As and when required, the Anton Paar heat set optimiser automatically suggests optimised heater temperatures after the test run is completed. The complete ready-to-go
system occupies only a minimum amount of laboratory bench space and easily masters all standard fuel distillation test measurements as well as the distillation of ethanol-blended gasoline. ADU 5 comes prepared for automatic dry point detection. Testing and results are in full compliance with ASTM D86 (Group 0, 1, 2, 3, 4), D1078, D850, ISO 3405, IP 123, IP 195. ADU 5 meets the highest safety standard in its class and the requirements of the latest version of ASTM D86. It features an automatic fire-extinguishing system that can be connected to N2 or CO2 gas. An automatic shut-off and a low-level detection of the cooling liquid prevent overheating of the unit, which is equipped with an integrated cooling system.
Thanks to the excellent temperature stability of the receiving chamber, an automatic correction of the results to standard pressure and perfect distillation rate control, ADU 5 guarantees highly accurate results to ensure outstanding repeatability and reproducibility.
