IF YOU’RE STRUGGLING TO PAY YOUR RENT

GHA can help yo W

E can help you put rent first. If you’re worried about keeping up with payments, get in touch.

We’ve just launched this year’s rent

campaign, ‘Helping You Put Rent First’. We are helping many tenants get back on track with their rent – and we can help you too. There are lots of ways we can help

– from help to sort out money and benefits to help into jobs and training. It’s especially hard at this time of year – but if you’re finding it hard to keep up with your payments, get in touch with your housing officer. Liz Wilson, from Sighthill, was close to being evicted when she got help. From facing the prospect of losing her home, she’s now back on track. Liz said: “I got hit by the benefits cap and lost around £1000 a month in income. “My Housing Benefit was cut to just 50p a week.

“I thought if I ignored it, my arrears

would just go away. I was faced with losing my home, with my kids being put out on the street. That’s when I knew I had to do something about it.

“My Housing Benefit was cut to just 50p a week”

“My housing officer put me in touch with the Welfare Benefits Advisor, Lily. “Lily was just fantastic. She helped

me apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment, which was a real lifeline, and other benefits too.

“She helped with the paperwork and

came with me to appeals. “If it hadn’t been for Lily, I would have been homeless.

“I knew I had someone to support me

“Look at the help I got. Don’t be afraid to talk”

– and that she was fighting my corner. I’m so grateful. “Lily really helped me get back on

my feet.

“My message to other tenants is – don’t ignore your arrears. Ask for help. “Look at the help I got. “Don’t be afraid to talk.” GHA’s Andy Ashcroft added: “Liz’s situation is a great example of the difference we can make – and how we can help people make sure they put rent first. “It’s really important tenants turn to us when they need help. “It can be difficult at this time of year, but don’t be tempted to skip a payment. Your home is too important to risk. “Don’t suffer in silence. Talk to your housing officer or pick up the phone. “Our expert advisors can make all the

difference – and their support can be a real lifeline.”
