STAR PHOTO
THE winner of this issue’s Star Photo is Billy Connell of Ruby Street.
Billy took this atmospheric photo of the Vital Spark at Inverary. Well done to Billy, who wins £20 worth of shopping vouchers. Can you take a photo as good as Billy’s?
If so, get them sent into the
Key pronto! As usual, we’ll print the best ones.

Kimberley. Unfortunately, we can’t install any new lighting in the close. But we’re speaking to the city council to see if lookinga at street lighting will help. Your housing officer will keep you updated. Thanks.
Dear the Key I moved into Devol Crescent, Pollok, at the beginning of the year and was told we were getting new windows. But when I ask, I am told ‘Yes, they are getting done but we don’t know when’. Can you help with any answers to this? Jean Porch, Devol Crescent Thanks for getting in touch Jean. We’ve been to see you about this. We’re looking into replacing the windows and will get it done as soon as we can.
Dear the Key I need your help badly. I’m a pensioner and my back garden is full of weeds. I’d just like it to be tidied up and to be able to sit out. Mrs Lally, Ruchazie Road
We’ve raised this with the city council, who help you out with your garden and asked them to sort it for you. Any more problems, give them a bell on 287 5064. Thanks.
Dear the Key I would appreciate if you could help. My grandparents are in their 80s and have been calling the council to have their neighbour’s hedge trimmed as it is blocking their kitchen window. Someone from the council came out several weeks ago but it still hasn’t been cut. I would be grateful for any help. Mr and Mrs Roe, Cleeves Road We raised a line with our rapid response team and got it sorted for you.
Dear the Key I note you have informed us the results of the rent increase consultation is available on the GHA website. But many GHA tenants don’t have access to computers. I think it is

important you publish the results in the Key magazine, to prove GHA is open and transparent and that it puts tenants ‘at the heart of everything they do’. Geraldine Bradley Hello Geraldine. Our consultation on next year’s rent is about to start. We will make sure we publish those results in the Key. Our free Click & Connect centres all over the city help tenants use the internet.
Dear the Key There’s a massive tree in the garden below me and it’s really starting to annoy me. The amount of flies and midges as you walk in the front of the close is unreal. It’s the same on my veranda and I have bird droppings all over my windows too. I hope something can be done. Sonia Wilson, Glenraith Square Thanks for your letter, Sonia. The tree is in an owner’s garden so we need their permission to do anything. Our colleagues
in YourPlace are seeking consent from the owner before our arborists can cut it back. Hope this helps.
Dear the Key Could you please tell me why the grassy areas around Myrtle Hill Lane are not getting cut? The grass is very long now and unsightly. It is three feet tall. Murray Sinclair, Myrtle Hill Lane Hi, thanks for your letter. The land there belongs to the city council. We’ve raised it with them, and we’ll raise it again with the parks department and the local councillor as soon as possible to hopefully get a response. Your housing officer will keep in touch.
Dear the Key My father lives in Prospecthill Circus, Toryglen. He’s been in his new home for well over a year. He’s 81 and not fit to cut the grass. Could someone please see this is done for him? Thanks Alan McCole Hi there. Our environmental team was able cut the grass as a one- off, but your dad will qualify for the council’s garden maintenance scheme. Phone them on 287 5064. Hope this helps.
Dear the Key
When will our back courts be done? The bin rooms, gates and slabs need renewed. We have two wheelie bins and three tin bins. There should be three bins in each bin room. Plus the cleansing remove the bags but leave gunge at the bottom of the bins. The close needs repainted too, the ground floor especially. The paintwork is coming off the walls. Can anything be done? Edith Holmes, Royston Road Hello Edith. We’ve arranged for the slabs to be repaired and we’ll make sure the bins stores are swept out over the winter. We’ll also ask the council to clean the bins and replace the missing ones – but it will be like for like, as that’s council policy. Unfortunately, we won’t be upgrading the backcourts, or painting the close, in the near future, but we will certainly look to do that as soon as we can.
