Nicola opens homes in former tram depot
IRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon visited tenants of GHA’s latest new homes. The First Minister visited Marilyn Cunningham, 66, who moved into her new home in Brand Street, Govan. The new development – made up of 85 GHA homes and another 20 mid-market rent homes let and managed by GHA’s partners Lowther Homes – is on the site of the former Govan Tram Depot. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “It’s
fantastic to see an old building being redeveloped and directly benefiting local residents like Marilyn.” Marilyn said: “I absolutely love my new house. The neighbours are fantastic too, really friendly.” Meanwhile, tenants have moved into 47 new GHA homes in Pollokshaws in the south. Mpanga Katongo, who moved in earlier this year, said: “I hardly have to put the heating on and I’m already saving money on my bills.” Work is well underway on hundreds
more homes, including 152 GHA flats at Hinshelwood Drive in Ibrox and on 130 new GHA homes at Dougrie Drive in Castlemilk. Work has also finished on 30 mid-market
rent flats at McBeth Street and MacDuff Street in Parkhead.

Meanwhile, work has started on 45 mid- market rent homes in Burnmouth Road, Barlanark, and 33 at Warriston Street in Carntyne, as well as 65 mid-market rent homes in Ibroxholm Oval, and 52 flats in Bell Street in the Merchant City. Mid-market rent homes are a good option
for people who are working but struggle to afford private rents or buy a place.

GHA is helping tackle hate crime. Hate crime is when someone commits a crime against you because of your race, gender, sexuality, religion or disability. GHA will be taking part in Hate Crime Awareness Week, from 14-21 October, a week of activities to remember victims and raise awareness. Look out for more information in
your local housing office and on GHA’s website and social media. If you’ve been the victim of hate crime, or someone you know has, report it to your local GHA office, or call 101 or visit your local police office. In an emergency, always
call 999.
