12 News Pupils’ insight into housing

YOUNGSTERS from the North West got an insight into how a busy housing office works. Pupils from Knightswood Secondary visited their local GHA office as part of a qualification they’re doing at school. They met housing officers,

welfare benefits advisors and environmental staff and other staff. Area Housing Manager Niall Byrne said: “We were delighted to give the young people an insight into how

GHA works and how we can support tenants.” GHA Housing Officer Eleanor Wilmott also visited the school. Pupils at Knightswood Secondary, as well St Roch’s Secondary in Springburn, are studying for the CIH Community Action in Housing qualification.

Funeral Services McLean’s 644 Alexandra Parade, Dennistoun YOUR LETTER Dear the Key

The city council supplied us with two blue recycling bins and one grey bin. But the people who empty these bins don’t always return them. On several occasions they only returned one. Usually we find the missing bin in a nearby backcourt. Can’t they count? All we want is two blue bins out and two blue bins in. Billy Macdonald, Thornwood Place

Thanks for your letter, Billy. We’ve already reported this to the city council. We’ll keep an eye on things, but any more issues phone them on 287 9700.

Dear the Key Once again, GHA has increased rents without publishing the results of the tenants’ consultation. I find it hard to believe that tenants voted for an increase

as GHA already has high rent charges compared to other housing associations in Glasgow. I urge you to publish the results, otherwise any future consultations are pointless. Geraldine Bradley, Myrtleview Road Hi Geraldine. Thanks for writing in. The consultation is a chance for tenants to have their say – and that feedback is very important to us. The GHA Board always takes tenants’ views into account before it decides on rent levels. We know times are tough for many people. We always try to find a balance between the cost of delivering services tenants have told us they want – such as repairs and investment work – and keeping rents affordable. Hope this helps explain things. Thanks.
