TO B E B E S IDE THE S E A S IDE BANK BACKS BEACH HUTS PLAN

A Warwickshire tea room, who like many in the hospitality industry suffered during the pandemic, has turned around its fortunes following a Bounce Back Loan from Barclays.

Orangemabel tea rooms on Alcester High Street used the funds to install a series of themed beach huts in the tea room’s gardens which can be pre-booked and are not weather dependent. As a result, the business has seen its turnover double.

Owner Jayne Roberts said: “Like everyone in our industry our income ground to a halt during the first lockdown and I had to find new ways of working that would future proof our business once we were able to re-open. I came up with the idea of the themed beach huts which mean people can enjoy their refreshments in the knowledge that they are in a safe and private environment – whatever the weather!”

Jayne Roberts continues: “The huts are also being booked for family celebrations, small hen parties, baby showers and the demand for them has exceeded all my expectations.”

CHE F SWA P S PANS FOR P EN THE ADVENTURES OF ARNOLD

Glynn uses the central thread of Arnold being different to the rest of the flock to address the theme of how important it is to be yourself: “Arnold finds himself in an environment where he is different to the rest of the flock, and he gets picked on by some of the sheep. They don’t like him because he looks different to them. They bully him and leave him out of their activities. I wanted to address this in the book and highlight how great it is that Arnold is different and how being different means that he has his own very important qualities.”

Arnold the Alpaca is available to buy from Amazon. It can also be bought directly from Purnell’s on Cornwall Street in Birmingham.

Michelin star chef Glynn Purnell has released his second children’s book, Arnold the Alpaca, which tells the story of a very brave alpaca, who mistakenly gets chosen by shorted-sighted farmer Mr Pickles for his sheep farm.

Arnold has to learn how to fit in with the rest of the flock at the farm by using his differences to his advantage.

Glynn has once again teamed up with Nuneaton-based illustrator Ashley King, pictured above right with Glyn, to create the book.

He was inspired by watching a short film about at turkey farm in Berkshire. The farm had a herd of ten alpacas to protect 24,000 free range turkeys from being attacked by foxes.
