BUYERS GUIDE COL L ECT ING VIVI ENNE WE S TWOOD

THE BUY E R S GUIDE VIVI ENNE WE S TWOOD

Vivienne Westwood is undoubtedly one of the world’s best known and most admired fashion designers whose work has been an important influence on international style for over three decades. Her clothes, which have never failed to challenge both wearer and observer, have been described as being bizarre, ridiculous and unwearable on one hand and brilliant, inspiring and influential on the other! Her designs combine elements of intuition, experience, research and daring confidence to produce a look so distinctive it is recognised the world over.

Will Farmer is our antiques & collectors expert, he is well known for his resident work on the Antiques Roadshow, he has also written for the popular ‘Miller’s Antique Guide’. Those in the know will have also come across him at ‘Fieldings Auctioneers’. We are delighted that Will writes for Live 24-Seven, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

She was made British Designer of the Year in 1990 and 1991 and in 1992 was honored with an OBE recognising her outstanding contribution to fashion.

Her work is represented in museums around the world and her iconic designs are now keenly sought by collectors. Those who invested in her early work and were smart enough to tuck those safely away at the back of their wardrobes are now holding pieces worth not hundreds but thousands of pounds. When we think of Westwood’s designs they include obscure tailoring, bold tartans and of course ‘that’ pair of shoes which took Naomi Campbell down so spectacularly on the catwalk.

But who is Vivienne Westwood? Outspoken on one hand but private on the other… Vivienne Isabel Swire was born in Glossopdale, Derbyshire, on 8 April 1941. Her mother was a weaver in the local cotton mills and her father came from a family of shoemakers. After the war, they ran a sub post office in Tintwistle before moving to north-west London in the late 1950’s.
