From Our Founder
Remembering July 1987
Hi there Yes 1987 was a busy year.
The Canadian Quarter Horse As- sociation announced their third annual Canadian Championships at Edmonton on October 8-11. We were there, as we were for the first one.
The Hamilton Rodeo, spon-
sored by the East Hamilton Lions, postponed the event. The ORA were the Rodeo of Record
show features 3-days of in- ternat ional c l ini c i ans , f ami ly- fun entertainment and perform- ances, equine breed show-
cases, all indoor shopping and kid friendly interactive attractions. Can- Am’s mandate is to create awareness of the equine industry, making horses a vital part of the community and is the perfect show for everyone from the season horse person to the week- end rider and everything in between! Please stay tuned as we update
our website and social media with more information on clinicians, enter- tainment shows, tickets, scheduling and more! For more information visit

for this event. John Alden was a director of
the Ontario Equestrian Federa- tion and wrote a very strongly worded front page editorial on the Western Horse in the Olympics.
The ORA held their 35 An-
niversary with a camp out and rodeo at Claremont, Ontario. The event was at the Pleasure Valley park. All former members were invited to the event. The Rider published the group photo from the 25th Anniversary at Alliston, ON. I was there with my wife Katherine and our friends from Carling O’Keefe, Kathy and George Philips. We flew our Piper Warrior into a local farmers

Equestrian Canada And US Equestrian Renew Re- ciprocal Agreement For 2021-2023
Ottawa, ON, June 29, 2021 – Equestrian Canada (EC) is pleased to announce the renewal of the reciprocal agreement with US Equestrian (USEF) for 2021-2023. This agreement allows for EC Sport Licence Holders to
compete in USEF licensed competitions without paying a USEF non-member fee*. It also allows EC certified Officials to receive a guest card for officiating at USEF licensed com- petitions. Furthermore, the agreement recognizes all policies and
training requirements, including those related to Safe Sport, adopted by each national federation. Non-monetary discipli- nary action (e.g. suspensions, bans) taken by either EC or USEF against a member or Sport Licence Holder, or agency sanctioned by either party, will be upheld and enforced in both countries. To take advantage of USEF licensed competition of- ferings, EC Sport Licence Holders must complete two Safe Sport training modules, Fostering Healthy Environments and Concussion Awareness, which are available free for Sport Li- cence Holders through the ECampus. EC Sport Licence Holders participating in USEF licensed
competition are also required to adhere to all rules outlined in the USEF Rule Book, in addition to the EC Rules.
EC Sport Licence Re- quirements Canadians wishing to
compete in USEF licensed competitions without a USEF membership or pay- ment of a non-member fee* must be an EC Sport Li- cence Holder in good standing. Each discipline has a
field airport and had a superb weekend. Of course that was 10 years earlier. Somewhere in my archives I have that group photo. What a crazy unforgettable weekend. Even George Hewitt was there.
Shamrock Equine Sales held
their annual Registered Horse Sale on September 26 at Water- loo, ON
Flamboro Downs held a
Wild West and Family night at their race track on July 25. There were Chuck Wagon Rides, Pony Chariots and Ben Hur Races. Ad- mission was free if you were in Western wear.
Col. Al Greco was advertising his
Keen Trailers along with his Cir- cle M saddle and tack shop. Alas his entire farm is now a huge housing development..
The Canadian Driving Clas-
sic was held on July 10 to 13 at Tralee Farms in Caledon Hills, ON. That was a memorable show indeed. We were there.
The White Oaks Interna-
tional Horse show was held on August 7 -8
My Turn: Here we are into our 51st
year. I never thought that we would ever get to be half a cen- tury old. I guess looking back we had a lot of fine people working for us. Such as Jerry Kinsella

from the ORA, Don and Sue Nye from OQHA and others who pro- vided us with monthly informa- tion about
associations. Without their loy- alty we could not have gotten this far.

that kept up their support. Some are still in business since our first issue.
This past half century has
proven that we made the right de- cision to start the publication. We had many years of high bank in- terest and we could have pulled the rug so to speak. But we hung in
there… I know that many supporters
are gone off riding somewhere and we want to remember them
