for that particular show. It should be a great night.” Last year, Metallica was one of the featured concerts. On May 22, Encore Drive-in Nights features Bon Jovi. Encore Live is the promoter of the

drive-in concerts this summer in Raymond. “They’re being able to find entertainers, bands and musicians that are willing to take advantage of an odd situation and put on something that probably feels very foreign for them. I can’t imagine a big band that just feeds on the energy of a 20,000-30,000 audience to come to an empty stage or an empty audience and just perform. But, they managed to do it. Every show we have had has been amazing. We’re hoping we will have 10 shows this summer,” Robinson explains. Robinson points out the town also wants to take the show out on the road, so to speak. “We’ll have our big screen that will be

available to communities throughout southern Alberta. When we’re not doing a show, we’re hoping other communities would contact us and bring a little bit of sunshine and happiness to their communities and do their own drive- in,” Robinson says. People, Robinson says, really do

love the drive-in. “That has been an overwhelming response we have had from last year. The sense of nostalgia or

new feelings — it depends on your age, people get when they go to a drive-in. It’s a great, safe way to take in a show and people feel like they’re able to enjoy themselves — but in a proper way and to blow off some steam.” For more information about upcoming shows visit online at raymond.ca/drivein. “We’ll be updating that, as much as we can,” says Robinson, adding it is hoped there will also be a couple of actual live shows on the big screen, as well. According to Robinson, the town

has partnered with Visit Lethbridge and Tourism Lethbridge to offer hotel packages, as there are no hotels/motels in Raymond. “For those travelling, we’ve been able to negotiate some very low rates on hotels.” Robinson says plan a visit to

Raymond and area and make it a long weekend or spend the weekend and make southern Alberta a destination this summer. Raymond’s drive-in is a “companion piece for a southern Alberta weekend,” Robinson says.
