In this unit, learners will find out about the smallest living things called micro- organisms. They will learn that these can only be seen under magnification and they will be introduced to some micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria, protists and fungi.

Begin this unit by asking learners whether they know what causes humans to suffer from flu, or whether they know where antibiotics used to treat certain illnesses come from. Background knowledge
The four groups of micro-organisms covered in this unit are bacteria, protists (unicellular algae belong to this group), viruses and fungi.
