• Have a brainstorming session in the class to find out what food chains are. • Suggest that they too are part of a food chain to open up the discussion.

A food chain always begins with the Sun and ends with decomposers. Each stage in a food chain is called a trophic level.

Suggested answers 1 and 3 Check that the learner has drawn the food pyramids, put in the correct number of levels, and labelled each level of the pyramid. 
