s we spring into summer with an air of positivity, we are delighted to be back supporting the independent businesses in our region and I hope we encourage you to keep it local.
It was lovely to get out and about and meet people again and share the wonderful work they do. For many charities it has been a challenging time and, more than ever, volunteers have played such a vital role in their survival. The garden volunteers at Wentworth Woodhouse are testimony to this. Come rain or shine they dedicate hours of their time each week to help maintain the beautiful historical grounds for visitors to enjoy. Next time you visit, we hope you appreciate their hard work. Thanks to a new heritage project in Rotherham we can learn much more about three overlooked historical sites. We feature Keppel’s Column, Waterloo Kiln and Catcliffe Cone which we discovered all have a connection to Wentworth Woodhouse dating back centuries. Another fascinating historical feature looks at how the birth of inoculation in Britain can be linked back to Yorkshire thanks to the remarkable Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. A new art installation commemorates the 300th year anniversary of her pioneering discovery. As ever, we have some suggestions of how you can enjoy the great outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends in the local area.
