You will need: • Strong cardboard • Patterned papers • 28 sheets of A4 computer paper • A4 piece of thin card Small amount of jute or ribbon

• 4 elastic bands 4.5” long • Brown ink and sponge • PVA glue

• Sharp knife or scissors • Pen, ruler, and palette knife

Method:

1. Measure and cut cardboard 13.5” x 8”. Score vertically at 6” & 7.5”.

2. Cut two pieces of patterned paper to the same size and cut vertically at 6” & 7.5” - this will create your front and back cover and spine of your book. 3. Use your palette knife to sparingly spread PVA glue onto the cardboard, making sure all edges are coated. Do each section at a time to avoid glue drying out. Place your patterned papers on top of glue and smooth carefully. Repeat for spine and back and inside.

4. When completely dry, draw around a £2 coin on a piece of thin card and cut in half. Use this as a template to round the corners of the front and back.

5. Now take your elastic bands and stretch over the back page and onto the spine, spacing evenly.

6. Stamp or print the words ‘Gardening Journal’ onto patterned paper. On thin card, print out all 12 months’ names and clip art style gardening tools (I chose a fork and trowel). 7. Use your brown ink and a sponge to stain the edges of your journal, your gardening tools and

each individual month. 8. Split your 28 sheets of paper into 4 sets of 7 and fold in half. Place January in the top right-hand corner of your first page to create a tab. Draw a line from the base to the bottom of the page and cut off the excess cut the next six pages to match, then glue the tab in place. Repeat with the rest of the months until all tabs are in place. 9. Now take each set of pages and feed under the elastic bands. 10. Decorate the front cover with a punched border or lace and decoupage and brads. Make a hole in your gardening tool handles and thread with jute or ribbon use these to embellish the spine by tying with a bow to the elastic bands. Your gardening journal is now
