THE GLAZER FAMILY DONATES A PLAYGROUND TO THE ST. PETE PIER

T

he City of St. Petersburg announced a 30-year agreement with the Glazer Vision Foundation in support of the playground at the St. Pete Pier. The Glazer Vision Foundation contributed $1.5 million toward the Glazer Family

Playground, located within the new 26-acre St. Pete Pier District. The marine-themed playground is one-of-a-kind, designed by Earthscape in

collaboration with the City and W Architecture. The theme of the playground re- flects the context of the Pier and nearby coastal creatures. Designers asked, “What would newly hatched baby sea turtles see as they move from sand-to-sea?” The result is a playground with an immersive shoreline narrative. The junior play area represents the beach. An overturned sand bucket lies be- side a curious starfish. A nearby mound with a hill slide and climbing log driftwood is a turtle’s nest from which baby turtles make their way to the water. Follow the turtles to where the shoreline transitions into deeper waters. A lifeguard tower overlooks an osprey’s nest log climber perched by the water’s edge. Further into the deep, an immense kraken sea monster swirls around a multilevel seaweed tower and a sunken shipwreck. Paths and gathering spaces link the spaces together, creating a hub of activity

for visitors of all ages and abilities to enjoy. The St. Pete Pier™ marine themed play- ground is a reflection of the City inviting children and adults to play in a unique and creative way as part of this incredible new destination. “For a child, there’s no better place to have fun than at the playground,” said

Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Co-Owner and President of the Glazer Vision Foundation. “Our foundation wants to reach every child in Tampa Bay, whether that’s by providing better opportunities to learn in school through free eye exams and glasses for all children, or with a safe space to play and create lifelong memories with family and friends. Glazer Family Playground is truly a family destination, and we are proud to announce this addition to the St. Pete Pier District to be enjoyed for years to come.” “We couldn’t be more excited for the Glazer name to become a fixture at

the St. Pete Pier,” said Mayor Rick Kriseman. “I was not surprised to learn of their desire to name the pier’s sea-themed playground given their focus on family and their commitment to the entire Tampa Bay region. We are appreciative of this commitment and all that the Glazers do to make Tampa Bay a better place to live, work, and play.”
