FloridaStateParks.org/park/ Caladesi-Island One of the few completely natural islands along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Cala- desi is a mecca for swimmers, sunbathers and beachcombers, and it also attracts saltwater anglers and surf fishermen. A three-mile nature trail wends through the island’s interior and a three-mile kayak trail meanders among the mangroves and bay. Picnic tables and shelters are located near the beach.
The park has a marina with electric
and water hookups, as well as a snack bar and gift shop. It is only accessible by boat or ferry. Ferry service is provided by the Caladesi Island Ferry (727-734-1501).
FORT DE SOTO COUNTY PARK

nected islands, Fort De Soto is the area’s largest county park and includes more than seven miles of beaches, boat docks, the historic fort, campgrounds, a food concession area, fishing piers, nature trails and a canoe trail. A 6.8-mile, 12-foot-wide asphalt
recreation trail connects the campground with the North and East Beach Swim Centers and the historic fort. In addition, the 2,200-foot Barrier-Free Nature Trail is a self-guided interpretive trail providing access to nature for all visitors, regardless of their physical abilities.
