BEACH-BOUND The St. Petersburg/Clearwater shore-


line is known as “Florida’s Beach,” famous for its 35 miles of clean, safe, powder white sand. Fort De Soto Park has been named America’s top beach by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest online travel community. Both Fort De Soto and nearby Caladesi Island State Park also have re- ceived top marks from Dr. Steve Leather- man (“Dr. Beach”). More than 20 barrier islands, also


known as keys, buffer the Pinellas Penin- sula from the Gulf of Mexico. The gentle slope and calm surf of area beaches make them perfect for family water activities and ideal for sunning, shelling, swim- ming and surf fishing. Quaint shops, chic boutiques and a variety of waterfront restaurants can be found along the way. Our beaches are a short drive from


the resort; just ask The Vinoy Navigator for directions, or take the air-conditioned Suncoast Beach Trolley, which offers quick rides along the St. Petersburg/Clearwater beaches and to downtown St.Petersburg. Trolleys operate every 20 to 30 minutes from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cost is $2.25 per ride (exact change required) or $5.00 for a one-day GO Card with unlimited rides. See page 37 for beach locations.
