PAVILION CLOSURE Mepal Parish Council has advised residents the village Pavilion is currently closed, but inspections and maintenance work on contracts continues. There will be no new bookings to the end of this financial year, therefore pavilion rental income will be challenging in 2021.

Five years since it was formed in 2006, the Haddenham Community Land Trust has handed over the keys to the first five of its properties in the village.
The objectives of the local Community
Land Trust are to provide affordable housing to local people who may have been ‘priced- out” of the housing market but who have both the need and desire to live within the communities of Haddenham and Aldreth. Those involved include the Trustees with the support of the Parish Council, the property developers Palace Green Homes, Homes England, East Cambs District
Parish councils across the FenSCENE patch are increasingly investing in wild flower planting schemes.
So it is welcome news that Cambridgeshire County Council’s
highways committee has agreed a new policy on maintaining road verges. Country Councillor Lorna Dupré has been pressing the County Council to make it easier for local volunteer groups, like the one in Sutton, to manage local rural verges and seed them with wild flowers.
Cllr Dupré comments:
Council and the Cambs & Peterborough Combined Authority. HCLT Chairman Mark Hugo says: “I would
like to place on record my gratitude to all those people involved in getting us to the point where we welcome our first tenants. “The Haddenham CLT, being community led, is eager to engage the support of local people. If you would like to join us and become involved, please contact us via the email address opposite. New members are always welcome and if you wish to go further and help as a Trustee for the future we would be very keen to talk to you.”
Villages Are Blooming Marvellous
“The new system looks far more encouraging and permissive, and I really hope that’s how it works out in practice.”
The new policy states that the Council will not require an application for a licence before groups can do this. Volunteers can use the already existing Highways Volunteering forms and once risk assessments have been completed, this will enable them to be covered by CCC insurance whilst working on the public highway of which the verge forms part.
POT HOLES Stretham Parish Council has received many complaints about pot holes in the roads around the village. If you see a pot hole it can be reported to the Highways department, by going on to the Cambridgeshire County Council website.
WINDOW WANDERS Following the success of its community window displays on a Christmas theme, Haddenham residents showed their artistic talents with another window display for a World Book Day.
FEAST CANCELLED As there is still uncertainty as to whether or not the Stretham Feast can be run safely this year, due to the pandemic, the decision has been made to cancel the event for 2021 but is hopeful of a return in 2022.
