Create Your Special Space SARA FORD URGES US TO HIT THE RESET BUTTON…

Spring is in full swing and it is the perfect time to hit the reset button.

Our homes have become our everything in the last year; where we work, eat, sleep, educate, study, workout, watch events, clean, laugh, cry, live and virtually socialise. You may find yourself yearning for somewhere new, a different view or a change in atmosphere. Seeing as we’re still a little way from all businesses opening their doors, we’ve got to think outside the box.

HOME DINING

Recently I had a strong desire to go out to a restaurant, drink cocktails at the bar and then sit for the evening with dim lighting, background music and the clink of glasses and cutlery around me. So, I decided to move some things around and create the same vibe at home. Our office (come spare

room, come junk room) was transformed into the cosy corner of a cocktail bar and I jazzed up the kitchen table to resemble a restaurant setting! It wasn’t much but those tiny changes made us feel like we were out for the evening and it was lovely to visit somewhere new.

Short of splurging on a full blown makeover, there are some simple things you can do around the house to just give it a fresh feeling. I’ve used this method on every

room in the house (which isn’t very many) at various times over the last year and every time I’m amazed at the difference it makes to how I feel at home.

COSY SPOT

Create a cosy spot near a window and make it your 'go-to' place for downtime. Grab a book and your favourite hot drink, turn your phone off and enjoy

watching the world go by as if you’re in a cute coffee shop somewhere lovely. Move the furniture around. Whether it is your home office, your lounge, or even the bathroom. Whichever room feels like its in a funk can be easily fixed by a simple shuffle. Two words: ambient and

lighting. For just an evening add a few more lamps or candles, maybe even some fairy lights to the room… the result is instant cosiness.

Plants and flowers are a great way to add texture to a room you’ve become bored with. Maybe move a few pots from one place to another. I’m a firm believer of finding joy in simple things. It is important the place you live has a spot of tranquility for you, a place of calm amongst all the madness.

It has been easy to let it become just a functional building rather than a place of enjoyment. So go on; start shaking things up! Sarah Ford www.freshandwell.co.uk www.4d-dance.co.uk @fresh.social | @fresh.fordie
