Expert Insight Help is at hand... How to manage stress and anxiety before you hit burnout

Almost two thirds (62%) of UK hospitality and entertainment workers required intervention or medication to cope with workplace stress in 2019 and in 2020, this figure was even higher. But confidential, affordable, help is at hand.

The hospitality and entertainment sector is renowned for its creativity and resilience and there is no doubt that 2020 presented some of the biggest challenges we’ve ever seen. Messages about recovery and survival have focused on resilience, but the impact of living with this long-term stress is not always acknowledged.

Hospitality chiefs have cautiously welcomed the recent Budget announcement and there is also the first indication of a route out of lockdown: Venues will be able to reopen outside spaces from April 12 at the earliest, with plans for indoor openings from May 17, with some restrictions still in place before a full reopening penned for June 21.

Burnout and Anxiety Support

Together, Business Mental Wellbeing and Me Myself in Mind have been working to support people at all levels of the industry and to offer a helping hand at this incredibly stressful time.

In 2020 these two mental wellbeing mentorship businesses – with their own lived experiences of stress, burnout and working in the hospitality sector – launched a bespoke service to provide stress, wellbeing and anxiety mentoring.

Small blocks of 1:1 sessions are pre-booked and budgeted for by management and accessed confidentially by staff and include guided meditation and mindfulness practices, both of which are powerful tools to manage stress, anxiety and overwhelm and small group webinars jam-packed with practical tips and advice. Together, these two businesses have worked with many entertainment and hospitality businesses, including global drinks brands, boutique hotels, private members clubs and senior management teams and investors.
