Theft warning doing Christmas
in lockdown RESIDENTS
shopping online are leaving them- selves open to opportunist thieves, Kent Police have warned. Despite many people being at home during the lockdown, they should take simple steps to keep themselves safe this winter. Chief Inspector Lara Connor- said: "We understand people are staying at home, but this will not stop burglars. “Storing keys away from doors
and windows and taking them with you when you go to bed will mean you are less likely to be a vic- tim of a car-key burglary. “Dispose of packaging rather
than leaving it by your bins outside so you are not advertising what you have bought, and store and lock away bikes, tools and garden items which could be stolen or used to break into your home.”

Knife attacker jailed after injuring woman
A VIOLENT thug has been jailed after threatening to kill a woman before throwing a knife at her.
Christopher Green (33), of
Fairmeadow, Maidstone, left his victim with long-term injuries after reading her text messages to her friends. He then picked up a knife and
told the victim she would “not get out of here alive”. The victim received treatment
to her foot that evening, but was admitted to hospital six days later where she was told it would be unlikely that she would gain full use of the foot again. Green was arrested on April 15
and later charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bod- ily harm. Green pleaded guilty to the of- fence after the victim was able to provide text messages and emails where Green admitted the as- sault, and on September 22, he was jailed for four years at Maid- stone Crown Court. Investigating officer PC Annal- isa Bevans said: “I sincerely hope his victim can now take some comfort from this sentence and is able to move on with her life.
“Domestic violence is a priority
for Kent Police, and I would en- courage anyone who finds them- selves in a similar situation or relationship to report it to some- one and get help, no matter how long ago the abuse took place. “There is a range of support and information available, just phone us or ask a trusted friend or relative to do it. “Nobody should feel they don’t
have the option to walk away from domestic abuse.”
MP vows to support Shepway crime fight
MP Helen Whately has visited Shepway, one of Maidstone’s most crime-prone areas, to learn about the estate’s antisocial be- haviour. The MP for Faversham and Mid
Kent said the police are increasing their presence, with more foot pa- trols with partners, and are visiting people known to have a history of anti-social behaviour. MrsWhately said: “After many
residents contacting me about crime
and antisocial
behaviour in the Shepway area of Maidstone, I am working with the
Kent Police and Crime Commis- sioner and the police to find a solu- tion. It is good to see the Maidstone Task Force is delivering results. “There have been 93 arrests for a
range of offences, from assault, possession of drugs and theft from motor vehicles. There have also been 120 intelligence reports, and 130 stop searches with positive re- sults. “Keep reporting crime and anti-social behaviour to the police or CrimeStoppers and together we will get that crime rate down.” Letters, pages 45 & 46
